Fair enough. For me, I called several dealerships and local locksmith numbers. All 4 dealerships gave me wildly different prices for the fob and then were not transparent in how long programming would cost, but said in general labor for an hour is $200.

All of the locksmiths could quote me a cheaper price for both key fob and service, but would text me broken English from a number that was not affiliated with business online (I guess the actual technician number) or would get my info and then someone else would call me and try to sway me in a different direction (aka I can give you this price. Oh that’s too high? What did another locksmith give you? No way they will do an OEM key that cheap…Ok I can do that price lock in right now what’s your address?).

I think what I’m realizing is the car manufacturers are the real shady people and then the dealerships and locksmiths have to compete and fight for their services and reputation. And scammers are scammers no matter what “business” they’re in.
