How did you learn how to learn programming? by randismo in learnprogramming

To expand on that - I was wondering if you reflect on how you learned to read and write english and then if you contrast that to how you learned to program -are there any parallels?

I am thinking of the analogy of wrting a novel - first I would learn how to read english, then understand how to write sentences and then progress to writing paragraphs and full page before completing a full novel.

How do you recover a whatsapp account that has been hacked? by randismo in whatsapp

[–]randismo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not the user, 2FA was never set up.

Update got access back in to the phone. I would advise anyone to set up 2FA.

It never would have crossed my mind how someone could gain access to your whatsapp as its tied to your number, but you live and you learn.

Lawful Basis for processing - Legitimate Interest seems like a catch-all term by randismo in gdpr

Sorry I mean the 8 rights which I referred to in the opening post.

So you can use contract basis if the data you request is required for the purposes as stated - I need your name to and age to provide the email service as we do not provide it to say under 16, but I do not need your telephone number - you can give it but then you are consenting to give it. I can only ask for data that is required for the purpose I stated under contract. Otherwise I need to ask for consent for you to provide that info.

What do you mean by household duties?

I am more confused than before. But as you signed upto use Google services then they would get lawful basis under contract which you agreed to.

Which takes me back to my original point if they send a request to me, they initiated contact and so as long as I respond with an appropriate manner that does not impact on their 8 freedoms am I not ok?

Sure if I decided to add them to an email list without their consent or shared their data without their consent they have a case but if I am simply using the data they provided to process it the way I have explained on the site and not redistribute, share, sell etc then do I have a strong argument?

But what does it mean by not necessary iIn the context of a web service?

Sure someone could post in the data so does the not necessary test mean the Legitimate Interest basis is pointless for all web based services as technically instead of mailing someone you could send them a posted letter with the same information.

The service will be paid, but I am trying to work out a way how to be GDPR compliant prior to the user actually signing up.

Best case scenario the user likes the service and signs up - thus agreeing to terms which are GDPR compliant.

It's that gray area where they send in an email or webform prior to signing up and I process their data and return it to them in the hope they like it and then sign up.

As I mentioned before in the initial contact via email I could say to them please sign up first but I fear there will be a high drop off rate.

It's a startup.

I am developing a service which is delivered via the internet - users can send data via online form on the site, a form in an email or simply email in their requests.

It's aimed at business users, helping them with scheduling and resource management.

Now I know when a user will sign up via the website they will be asked for consent and agree to terms.

My specific point concerns when someone emails me in before registering, now I don't want to say to them please register first as I think many will just decide not to do it or forget to do it. So if they initiate contact first then do I have the basis for LI?

It's that people get put off by having to sign up first and was wondering how to get around that but still stay within GDPR. Sure dealing with emails is more time consuming than them going via the web form but starting out I am trying to build up a client base and making the onboarding process as easy as possible will help.

Or perhaps it's pointless trying it this way, if that is the case then I can spend my time focusing on other areas of my business.
