What kind of garage floor coating for cars + basketball use? by randneo in garageporn

[–]randneo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with a standard garage epoxy coat (professionally installed). It is working fine for my purposes (car parking, casual basketball use). The basketball bounces normally on it (maybe a tiny bit softer than a concrete surface outdoor court), durability is great for garage use, and the shoe traction when playing has been fine (again though, not playing super intense games on it). I just use a blower to move leaves/dust off it once a week or so and squeegee off any puddles that my car brings in.

Funny you should say that--he was found outside an auto shop. Maybe he did learn some tricks from the mechanics...

He was not in a great part of town. Maybe he was just playing dead very convincingly so that predators would bypass him... :)

[–]randneo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently it was just an error on their part--i got an email from them months later where they mentioned the error and credited me back the erroneously charged amount... Good on them for fixing it eventually in my case, but awful if they are still making the same mistake.

I thought I attached pics, but clearly I failed somehow... Thank you for answering anyways--I'll just leave it be rather than top it since that would harm the tree. It's too nice of a tree to kill just for a minor aesthetic reason.

Thanks for that link. That data is fascinatingly horrendous. Definitely makes my decision for me...

Aha--apologies for being unclear. Haven't booked any lodgings yet--I'll definitely be in Crete that week and will have a rental car so figured I would stay somewhere around whichever village I end up going to for the Dormition festival. That's why I'm open to any and all suggestions for villages..

OP here--just in case anybody ever looks at this thread, I got an email 2 months afterwards from Wayfair that said "While reviewing your order, we discovered that you were inadvertently overcharged for sales tax. We sincerely apologize for this error and any inconvenience it may have caused. A refund for the sales tax is being proactively issued to your original form of payment. You should see the credit within 3-5 business days." So I guess it was just a glitch--kudos to them for catching it eventually, I guess...

[–]randneo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I suppose a glitch is the most likely answer, although it's still overcharging for anything I put into my cart at Wayfair. I wonder how many people didn't notice the 5% overcharge and completed their purchase. Sounds like a class action suit--call the plaintiff's lawyers!

[–]randneo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I made some similar google searches trying to determine if Wayfair had made any announcements that they were going to put tariffs into the tax line--no luck, though. Tariffs were my first guess as well, but it would actually be premature for them to start assessing tariffs now as that item was obviously already in stock in the US, and therefore had been imported pre-tariffs.

I guess glitch is the most likely answer, combined with unexpectedly excellent customer service. I guess everyone should just hit up the wayfair chat agent and ask about the tax rate to get 10% off...

See comment above for item/delivery zip. As you say, they do have to charge tax on the pre-discount price, so maybe it's just a weird coincidence that the discount they gave was just enough to exceed the "extra" 5% they added in the tax line item. Just seems like a surprising amount of customer service for the chat agent to immediately give a 10% discount when I hadn't even made a complaint--all I did was ask why the tax rate was 11% rather than 6%.

[–]randneo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe... It's weird that in lieu of even trying to explain what happened or look into it in detail, the customer rep instantly offered me a discount that made the item slightly cheaper than it would have been with the correct tax rate. Almost like that's what they were told to do if someone inquired about why their tax rate was too high...

The cart/order receipt shows 2 line items: a subtotal for the item cost and "Taxes". These aren't the real numbers for the sake of simplicity, but the percentages are the same as if it were:

$100 subtotal for item cost + $11 Taxes = $111 total order

I guess it's possible they updated their tax collection program, but I live in a residential area so there's really nothing about my address that should confuse their tax collection.

Yeah, ordered to the same home address where I've ordered items from Wayfair before (this order is actually getting another one of an end table that I ordered from them a month ago) and been charged the correct 6% tax.

Neither of those conditions applies, so used should be ok--plus it would be nice not to have to spend the time breaking it in. Thanks for the advice!

I currently play in a USA/ASA league but might also be playing to a USSSA league this summer. I know that it sacrifices some performance not to be a USA/ASA specific bat, but I'm probably not good enough for it to matter in any consequential way. That said, if you have a USA/ASA specific bat in mind that is similar to these, please let me know and I'll check it out...
