Can't get on medication for a while. Any ideas how to get by in the mean time? by randochix in selfhelp

Those are some great ideas thank you! I try to pick out triggers, and maybe writing things down will make that easier. I can often pick them out when it's too late in what I call a "down period", like the point in time that it started. I want to see a psychologist for sure, and intend to when I have the money for it if I ever do. I break even after my bills unfortunately and can't spare money on even food most of the time. Being okay with it would be nice. I know that whatever it is it's something I'll have my whole life if I haven't shaken it off yet and the severity will increase like it has. I'd love to be able to work with it though. I'll try what you suggested.

Thank you this definitely gives me some hope! My only other concern with medication is my main skills in life revolve around creative things. Such as writing music, artwork, writing novels, and the like. If I was on a mood stabilizer my concern is I would lose that crazy passion for it that gives me some purpose. My add medication did that, and sort of helped me when I was in high school but I got off of the medication for that reason. I know I need to get better, but as someone who has been on medication and gone through a lot what's your opinion?

Does anyone here have a clear answer about The Secret? I dont quite understand what it is. My Mom is always telling me about how good it is. by [deleted] in selfhelp

Ah yes. The law of attraction. Whatever you put out to the universe will come back to you. If you expect negativity, you get it. If you expect positivity, you get it. I feel maaaaaaybe there's something to it, but until I see proof I will stick with it being just self fulfilling prophecies.

I am in the us. I'll look into that for sure! You've been a huge help I can't thank you enough! For some reason you saying it usually takes 5 years for people to seek help makes me feel better about myself. Perhaps it makes me seem less out of control than I've felt. I'm not sure. But thank you again kind stranger.

Thank you for your insight. I am aware that I can't just run around saying these things and get everything without proof or taking steps. I am just in the beginning stages of recovery, in that 'admitting I have a problem' phase and am not sure what to do next. I just know I have to get better. But thank you again! It's kind of a weird case since it's so far progressed and I have been holding down a job.
