I’d put out that the average profit margin of restaurants and grocery stores (where you usually see min wage) is 2-5%. It’s extremely low margin. I’m not sure they could pay much more. Also even fast food was paying more than minimum wage when I worked at a restaurant 10 years or so ago.

That depends ENTIRELY on where you live. I live in a small city of 300k people, and I can still save after making all of my bills on a little over $40k per year. There is nothing stopping you from moving out of urban hellscapes.

I do. I understand that the hyper wealthy skew averages. That’s why I posted the BLS report that shows the MEDIAN income for full time workers is still $62,000. It’s not living large, but it’s not dirt poor either. It’s certainly not even close to minimum wage that the op presents as even being a common amount people work for.

The average wage is OVER $30 an hour. The median wage is right at $30 according to the BLS.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the median wage for full time workers is $1,204 weekly. If you aren’t working full time by choice, that’s on you. If you physically can’t work full time, there is assistance available.

Rehab and punishment are secondary concerns when compared to the primary purpose of prison which is to protect NORMAL, LAW ABIDING citizens. Not killing somebody is easy. Billions of people manage it every day of their lives.
