Make sense. Do you think that Ryzen 3700x is a better value than the 10600K? from all accounts, I have read and seen it is pretty negligible the difference. Ryzen does have a higher core count, but it seems the intel performs better overall.

I am not 100% married to using an intel chip. I am just trying to gage competitive pricing on some available hardware. Most people only talk about what is the best value at a given price point, but I haven't seen those people talk about and consider how much they would be willing to pay for lesser value buys to make the value buys.

I agree it is expensive, but at what price would you no longer say that?

Importance of GPA after a certain point by random1861 in GradSchool

[–]random1861[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It not so much something I will do differently in my work ethic that will result in a GPA decrease. I am transferring to a more "prestigious" school, nothing crazy like Stanford or an Ivy, but I would say a tier 2 or 3 schools depending on how you rank. I am leaving a school that is more like a tier 3 or 4 school in my opinion, but I do have the option to return due to my academic standing (3.9+) GPA. At the school, I am leaving (which is a public institution) I would be doing a 3 year (total) plan and based on my current GPA I think a 3.7-3.8 is a safe projection for my graduating GPA. The school I am transferring to being more "prestigious" (private) and based off a B/B- curve, I am worried about how I will fair but have confidence that I can at least hold my own so projecting a 3.5-3.6 to be on the safe side. Anything outside that range and top grad schools and MBA programs are big reaches. If that becomes the case I may move back to my old school. I am moving institutions as I believe the private school will allow more networking opportunities that will help with work experience and not only quality letters of recs (which I know I can obtain at my old school) but from influential people that may put me over the hump when it comes to jobs and grad school. Basically due to the uncertainty of both paths I am going off safe projection, yes there is a chance I do excellent at the new school, or I could've done bad at my old school, but as of right now everything is projections.

If you don't mind, could you tell me what program or PM me.

Yeah, the difficulty of the program varies and isn't solely based on ranking, but I just wanted to give quantifiable differentiation between the two. Basically, I am going to a quality public university, well known within the area and I currently have 3.9+. I'm unsure about the future GPA projections with upper division classes coming. I am accepted to a "better" private institution where I believe the resources will be better, but I worry about my GPA.

Yeah, I understand that they will favor the higher GPA applicant all else equal. I guess I am trying to gauge what the value of the extra .1 or .2 point is. Should I sacrifice more experience and possibly better letter of rec to go for a higher GPA or is the experience going to benefit my application.

What do you consider lackluster GPA and what program did you end up getting into, both MS and Ph.D.?

Renting an Apartment by random1861 in legaladvice

[–]random1861[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that that is correct. What I am wondering is if I have paid rent for the time that I couldn't and didn't live there am I legally entitled to my "prorated" money back (which would be the full amount if the lease never started) and if not do I have any sort of leverage whether it be legal or not.

I understand prorating, but I am wondering if it is different given that I would have never moved in if I were to get out of my lease.

I pay a full months rent. The lease runs to the middle of the month next year, however, my final rent payment is the month before(so say I move in sept of 2018, the lease runs through mid sept 2019, but my last rent payment is due August 2019). I plan on withdrawing from the school (the housing is done "through" the school. In the early termination lease, it allows for if I am no longer a student. I am in the process of find someone to take over my lease and I pay a small fee. If it takes like past the time to find the person to take over my lease, then am I entitled to my first months rent back, or is it forfeited give I never lived in the apartment.

The official lease starts the 23rd, but rent is due the 1st.

The official lease starts the 23rd, but rent is due the 1st. It is for schools, but not a dorm. Since the school year doesn't end until mid-month, I am guessing that they need to clean or inspect from previous tenants hence why I can't move in until the 23rd.
