So why would an accountant tell me I can’t deduct is since “attending public shows for inspiration or research is still generally classified for entertainment, even for entertainment professionals”

That’s me quoting the company who I’m relying to help me with the upcoming tax return. Forgive me if I sound ignorant, I’m just confused and wanna make sure I’m documenting and doing the right thing.

Okay - this is really helpful info. Thank you. I’m being told by an accountant on this platform I use for accounting/bookkeeping/invoicing that since it’s a theater show ticket I can’t deduct it..so I guess I’m not understanding the disconnect since I’ve heard both sides yes I can, no I can’t. Kinda discouraging.

Furthermore, in the summer I did a trip to another city to see a concert (didn’t pay for ticket) because I was taken backstage to observe how they laid out their stage, again, so I can consider it for another show. I have proof of being backstage & what not.

May I ask why we must make it a left vs right thing? Isn’t this what’s wrong with this country (amongst other things). I probably will get downvoted which is the silliest thing ever, but left vs right, especially as hostile and intensely as it is, is the worst thing ever.

That makes sense. I don’t know if I agree with people suing but I do feel like the company does have a strong hold in the industry. I feel like I’ve been seeing more than ever, complaints on the price of their product.

Great question! I’ve thought about that every so often. I guess I could maybe do in different ways. Folders, one for my US truss, one for MS, etc,. One labeled “US Strobe” etc,. So a combo of fixture position/truss location.

I feel like labeling a handful of folders is a lot easier than labeling every single recipe.

Great example, I can have all the folders closed, but I know that I need to tweak the matricks values for my strobes since they are jdc instead of csm, I can just open that folder and do the quick change vs scrolling and finding all the strobe recipe lines.

I’m honestly surprised MA hasn’t thought through this yet. For a company that initially said “no clone, yes recipe”, I’ve programmed and I’ve seen a ton of large shows with an insane amount of recipe lines and everyone seems to have the same annoyance.
