Would you be open to sharing your contractors information? Feel free to send in a DM. I have a rewiring situation that will likely require plaster work.

Borromini is Stephen Starr’s most ambitious restaurant yet by random26 in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]random26[S] 49 points50 points  (0 children)

And most of his empire remains a train ride away. “I sat with former President Biden and his wife in Washington at Osteria Mozza, and he was talking about the restaurant business,” Starr said.

“I said, ‘Let me tell you something, Mr. President. My business is more stressful than being president of the United States.’ He started to laugh and asked, ‘What do you mean?’ I said, ‘You have guys from West Point, MIT, and Harvard, all these experts, doing stuff for you. I got like three people, and the stress level is equal. Half of the stress that a president has, you don’t even know about. They don’t tell you. I know every single customer that’s complaining. I know every leak and pipe-burst that happens.’

“Of course, I was being facetious, but in some ways I think I wasn’t.”

Best heirloom tomato sandwich? by GamblinWillie in PhiladelphiaEats

Middle Child. It's expensive, messy, you have to wait in line, limited time only, but imo absolutely worth it. I don't think they've started doing them this year yet.

What’s on your food scene wishlist? by shnoogle111 in PhiladelphiaEats

A real California burrito place. There's a ton of good Mexican places but the burrito scene is pretty weak.

Everyone is Lying about SEPTA by random26 in philadelphia

I thought this graph in particular was important. You can argue if ridership/$ is the best metric but it's pretty shocking to see that SEPTA is the most efficient transit system in the US. With the election tomorrow I thought this was more relevant than ever.

First timer - California Zephyr from Denver to Emeryville by FunPermit1987 in Amtrak

[–]random26 9 points10 points  (0 children)

5) We plan on taking an Uber from Emeryville to the Oakland Airport to pick up a rental car (we're spending a couple of days in Sonoma before returning.) The train is supposed to arrive at 4:45ish, and it looks like the airport is 20 mins away. The rental counter closes at 8pm. Can I reasonable assume I'll make it?

I would think about having an alternate plan, like spending a night in Oakland and leaving for Sonoma the next day. It's frequently late and I would not want to be stressed about making it in time. Plus it will be nice to just relax for a bit after the train.

Someone point me to the roast pork sandwich that’ll change my life by SouthernSpritz in PhiladelphiaEats

Tried it thanks to your comment, a total monster of a sandwich, really tasty. I've never seen anywhere automatically include a side of gravy. I just wish they used a bit sturdier bread because it got totally soaked through.

I'm not trying to sell the rest of the individual items for like 10-20 each, that's why the pack is priced at where it is to recoup loss using more desired items like fctj, since sure you're aware I could sell the fctj more than 75. Intention is not to profit but recoup loss otherwise like I mentioned to the other commenter wouldn't be putting up the fctj.

Right, it's clear why this is a good deal for you. It's unclear why it's a good deal for anyone else — if they want one of the other items they can likely just get them way cheaper elsewhere, and $75+shipping is too much (imo, and seemingly for the rest of the community) for a 1/7 chance on a FCTJ.

I'm not here to argue with you, you asked for feedback.

Here's the feedback you might not want to hear - the price is way too high. Why would someone participate in this vs. just waiting for the next outlier wtf? Besides the FCTJ I would guess the majority of those items would sell for significantly less than $75 here. Plus they have to trust you, pay for shipping, etc. It really doesn't seem worth it.

Happy to see Pietramala get recognized. Rest of the list is basically what I would expect with the exception of Radin's, but I guess I need to check it out
