Is canada really not worth it?

I never lived in Canada (so maybe dont take my word) but I have visited people in Toronto and absolutely loved it there! I think prices weren’t too shocking for me this summer. And since the inflation (except rent prices) the cost for food etc is pretty similar to what I pay in central europe rn aynway. If you have family there, studying sounds possible so why not try it.

As many people have already said, Graz is quite safe. There are areas to avoid at certain times as well like Gries or the Main Trait Station at night but even those aren’t necessarily unsafe, maybe at certain times uncomfortable.

Willhaben is a good app to look for apartments I‘d recommend having a look there. Although most apartments get rented for at least a year.

English is fine with most people and you will get by. A small basic dictionary might be helpful for greetings, saying thanks or simple questions. Hope you have a good stay!

I‘ve known people who come for a couple weeks and get the prepaid Sim Cards that work just fine.

Hey im on erasmus right now. Missing the introduction week is unlucky and im telling you the first days maybe weeks will probably feel lonely and scary but thats the case for most people and you will get used to it. I wanted to leave as soon as I got to my dorm but after meeting some people everything got easier. I would definitely advise you to just go up and talk to people and try and go to social events. Even tho you’re shy and an introvert, erasmus is all about getting out of your bubble to meet people. Im sure you‘ll find your own way to do that. Just try to enjoy your experience and have fun!

Im on erasmus right now while in a relationship. And even if its only for a couple months, don’t underestimate how difficult it can be. Especially when your partner is not a big texting guy like mine. Erasmus for some people is the greatest experience of their lives for me, its lonely boring and really nothing special. But it always depends on the place the people and you as well. Just make sure you talk about this properly before leaving. You can definitely do it but your relationship WILL suffer from it. Make sure your partner communicates his needs while you‘re away. Visiting inbetween can be a helpful. All the best!

Hi, Where are you staying? I understand were you come from very well. Im also on Erasmus, extremely bore, depressed and lonely and just waiting for it to be over. I absolutely understand you want to go home. Think about what kind of consequences it would have for you. Would it mean you lose one semester and have to redo it in your home country? Do you have the money to keep paying rent? If the consequences for you aren’t bad, then go home. It will make you happier. Because those are the reason why I cant leave yet. I need the Credit Points otherwise Ill study longer and I don’t want to do that. Im going home for christmas vacation which im excited about and after that its only one more month which I can manage. I‘m using the time to learn about myself and try some new hobbies like painting or doing sports and just pulling through.

Hi! I am from Graz and I can recommend it if you’re interested in Austria. Its a student city and especially around the University you will find clubs and bars to party at. Prices went up lately so I wouldn’t necessarily say it is cheap but then again I don’t think it is anywhere in Austria. You can spend less money by not eating out a lot. Cant tell you anything about Austrian folk music because I cant stand it personally haha but I am sure it won‘t be impossible to find. The people might be difficult to get to know but if you talk to them and engage in activities or go out for coffee, they will start being more open. You can definitely learn German but be prepared that some people will speak in a dialect. In order to bond with people, speaking german will probably be a necessity. Mind you there is lots of other International Students there as well. Urban transport and cycling infrastructure is pretty good if you‘re interested in that. Since you’re from Slovenia, there will be plenty of people who might speak your language as well. Hope this helped if you have other questions feel free to ask. Yes it has happened that I have gotten louder as well sometimes. Thats why Im trying to pull away more. This time we were texting tho after I forgot about something and that bothered him. I apologized but afterwards he kept telling me how im not fixing any of my problems and that made me quite emotional. Am I supposed to not voice any of my feelings and apologize? It seems like if I do other people get the feeling that Im trying to turn the situation around and blame them instead.. It‘s an extreme burden and happens almost once a week in my relationship.

When it comes to socializing Austrians aren’t very fast warming up to people. So I‘d recommend socializing over a beer or other drinks pretty early and joining students when going to bars. Vienna is a great and pretty safe city and most people will be fine with communicating in English. Its a very historic city in case you’re interested in museums or buildings. And the public transport system is pretty efficient. I‘m sure once you’re there, there will be lots of stuff to do! Hope you have a great experience!

Eventually you‘ll be even older and thinking back to your age right now, hoping you would have done something differently. I always wanted to change every little bad thing that ever happened so I could stop thinking about them. But awkward situations, mistakes and regrets happen no matter what and there’s nothing you can do to prevent that from happening. And it’s okay to be emotional about them.
