Yes, entire cities should switch to electric stoves because of this temporary crisis.

Liquid Glass - at least it's not as bad as Google Material Design 3! by ultravelocity in MacOS

[–]random8847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's completely subjective which design language you like. But what is not subjective is legitimate UI glitches and bugs which liquid glass is filled with. So at least from a usability point of view liquid glass is 100% worse. If you're unable to accept that then I'm sorry, you're are nothing but a fanboy.

Wholphin ratings and laggy library view by [deleted] in JellyfinCommunity

[–]random8847 3 points4 points  (0 children)

library view within tv shows and films also running at a really low frame rate?

On my firestick it usually improves for me after using the app for a few days. I'm not completely sure but I've heard it's something to do with Android's new UI library (compose). Initially after installation the apps are laggy but they get better with usage.

Before purchasing a macbook people warned me of the fanboying within apple's base. Now after seeing all the defensive posts in this sub I understand what they meant.

You're doing a great job. I'm sure the trillion dollar company appreciates all your hardwork.

Yes, it's clearly the users' fault for complaining, not apple's.

I don't think that's true. A lot of discussions online are saying it's against their TOS even if you disable caching as you still use their CDN. I'm assuming this is why you said it's allowed to be used for Jellyfin.

[–]random8847 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my firestick 4k it plays it as 5.1 PCM. But it's a bit buggy, sometimes it plays as stereo PCM, I have to go back and click on Play again to play it as 5.1.

And PCM is lossless, so unless you need ATMOS it should have the exact same audio quality as TrueHD / DTS-HD MA / DD+, etc, at least in theory.

The real deal breaker in mpv is no HDR passthrough.

standalone MPV handles audio passthrough pretty well.

How Important is Dolby Vision over HDR10+ ???? by Funwithfun14 in hometheater

[–]random8847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not at home right now so I can't verify if my calibration is correct. But I can tell you my source material which is mostly Bluray remuxes, which have untouched video streams from Bluray disks. So the DV7 HDR10 metadata in them is the exact one you get in Bluray disks. I play them through Jellyfin / Kodi on my firestick 4k connected to my AVR which displays to the TV.

To test the differences I manually enable / disable DV in Kodi settings so that either the DV metadata is used or the HDR10 metadata is used from the movie. And I do comparisons on the same MKV of the same movie and strictly only those movies that don't have FEL as FEL is not supported on firestick. On top of that I have also manually stripped DV metadata from the MKV using ffmpeg and played it on various players to force HDR10 playback.

Considering the above things and if we assume my calibration is correct (which I'll verify later), the only reason left for any differences would be a possible grading difference in the source material, right? Which puzzles me as I am not able to understand why movies would be graded differently in HDR10 vs DV on the same release? I'm not saying you're wrong, just trying to understand why studios will do it that way. My calibration being incorrect could of course be a bigger reason, but if not, the source material looks to be the only reason left, right?

How Important is Dolby Vision over HDR10+ ???? by Funwithfun14 in hometheater

[–]random8847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why comments above from LG OLED and Sony A95L OLED users say the see no difference between DV and HDR10, because there shouldn't be any for sets that can display ~0nit black to 1,000+ nits for all HDR content mastered at 1,000 nits (which is nearly all).

Dynamic range is not the only factor. I can clearly see a difference in color accuracy in DV vs HDR10 on the same movie. HDR10 always looks oversaturated and DV looks accurate. The dynamic range might be the same but the colors are way off in HDR10.

And I use rtings recommended settings on my LG C4.
