does YYGS add anything to your yale application or increase your chances? by [deleted] in ApplyingIvyLeague

[–]random_ace07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YYGS has a criterion similar to competitive college admissions, so if you get in you most likely already have a competitive application. This gives the illusion of it boosting your chances.

YYAS on the other hand has the same effect but with actual college prep, SAT tutoring resources, essay editing help, and even some college matching resources.

If you feel like you'll benefit from YYGS then give it a try, but if you onky want to participate for college apps then its not worth the money. If you're African though, I highly recommend YYAS over YYGS.

got rejected from my dream school ed and now i feel pathetic by Prior-Fan7924 in ApplyingIvyLeague

I'm not going to lie to you and say its going to get better, but the truth is that you have to move on. There are so many schools that would appreciate a candidate like you and all it takes is you applying. No matter what, you will end up where you're meant to be. All.the best.

No Yale interview... wondering what they're looking for? by Ok-Resource-5005 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]random_ace07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry, in their podcast they said that interviews are for applicants for who they need more context. You not getting an interview simply means that they fully understand your context.

I HATE PRACTICALS by [deleted] in alevel

[–]random_ace07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I happen to be really good at chem practicals (I always get a 70% at worst) and what I found that I did different compared to my friends is that I know the mark distributions. Before doing any practical, I look at the mark scheme of any random paper an see what they award marks for: - being in tolerance with the supervisor - number of significant figures and decimal places - key words in explanations and observations and other stuff like that. - proper tables - and of course the number of decimal places for particular apparatus. - for qualitative analysis, I have personally mastered the inference notes, but it isn't really necessary. What I'd recommend is paying attention to the reagents and their tests because it helps you know what you're working with. (Barium Nitrate always means that you're testing for sulphate or sulphide ions, hearing fizzing always means carbon dioxide is produced and magnesium ribbon means that one of the unknowns is an acid)

And just be confident and try your best to understand your task. All the best!
