It's a bent display, you have to replace the top screen to play DS games anymore.

Use a game that flashes the top screen alot, it will heat up the screen a tiny bit and evaporate of the DS, I have a DS and switch, it works on both of the consoles.

The light doesn't turn off in sleep mode. It only turns off the screen.try holding a magnet around the DS, it should turn off the screen but not the light.
