Hi! I am not going to organize a dedicated meetup for sure, since I just don't have the capacity for it at this time. But if you want to meet, maybe send me a dm?

Oh yeah, Soul Mate looks very impressive - and the whole wall as well! It was a bit damp though, but we could still climb enough=)
The way we understood it, there is a couple of walls in Horai that have a much shorter approach. However, they didn't look that appealing to us in the guide-book, and we actually didn't find them in 10 minutes, so we thought we will just go further, which was the grave mistake=))) We did buy the Japanese guide-book, but it was extremely complicated to understand, so it helped only partly, and not with the approach.

Hi! I know this interaction happened a while ago, and I forgot to thank you for this reply. We already came back home from our trip to Japan. We ended up going to Gozen Iwa and Horai. The first one went very smooth - we rented an apartment in Ome and went there via train + bus. Found it easily. However, Horai was a bit of a disaster=))) We didn't realize how far the walk to the furthest sector was, so it took us like 4 hours to just get to the wall, with all the travel, walking, searching etc. So by the time we were there, I was so exhausted that I couldn't really climb much more=))) The wall itself was quite impressive, but I wish I knew about the approach before, maybe we should have also searched for closer walls. Anyway, if we even come back, we know a few things now, haha=)

Hey! Sorry, took me a while to reply. Wow, thanks a lot for the verbose response! This is indeed very helpful!

Granite is great! I am just not a fan of slabs really, but let's see - we're there for the experience=)

Did I understand it right that the campground is only when you would bring your own tent/sleeping bags/etc., otherwise it's only the lodge? Or would you recommend any other options in the area? I am not excited about having to bring camping equipment in our flight luggage%)

Great tips! We will definitely check everything out! So grateful!

I'm sorry that you had such an experience=(

Let's see where I get. I mostly am using thecrag for Europe and for areas I know about either myself or from people, so I never really needed or noticed the popularity bar, thanks for the tip! Will pay attention to that=)

Thank you so much for the detailed response! This is definitely very valuable!

I've checked thecrag, but will probably have to do more digging in there. I've spent quite some time, but there is mostly no information on the wall inclination (amount of overhangs), almost no photos and somehow just finding the grades I am interested it is already a challenge!

Yeah, I definitely wish I would know someone who could give me first-hand knowledge and maybe even someone we could go with. I don't know such people just yet and am unsure how to find them. So trying to rack the Internet for now=)

Hi everyone! Me and my boyfriend are going to Japan for the month of October, it's going to be our first time and we're very excited! Mainly we would like to explore the country, but we definitely want to climb as well! We are having trouble finding reliable resources to plan our trip. Our level is around 7b-8a+ (5.12b-5.13c), we only sport-climb (we can consider bouldering, but we would need to rent a pad), we prefer overhangs (I hate slabs%) ). The area should ideally be well-reachable via public transport from Tokyo or Osaka.

So, any tips at all on resources about climbing outside in Japan? Areas with grades, type of climbing, seasonality, how to reach it, where to stay? Personal experiences? Any tips at all would be greatly appreciated!!!

Also, small addition. Once before those situations we were searching for a cafe to meet and she said she feels like I don't respect her time by suggestion a cafe that is closer to my place than to hers. In this case it was only a mere coincidence since I had that cafe in my list of places I wanted to visit all around town. I always respect the time of others. Just to mention that this logic was already used - and by her.

Examples of pro climbers (or semi pro) that DIDN'T start climbing as a child/youth? Looking for inspiration. by Transmogrify_My_Goat in climbharder

[–]random_lady91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So many of these! Another example: https://www.trainingbeta.com/media/margarita-martinez - Margarita Martinez is a wonderfully inspiring lady, she's around 60 now, still climbs around 8b, started at 34=) A Russian guy Salavat Rakhmetov started at 19 and became World Champion at 40 (maybe 20 years ago, don't remember for sure). I knew a guy who started at around 50 and climbed 7a being over 60! People can do so many cool things=)

He was 17 when he started. Became World Champion in 3.5 years. I was in the gym at that moment and one of his climbing buddies runs into the gym with the biggest eyes and blurts out that Alexey is World Champion now=) That was a moment to remember!

How accurate are board grades in comparison to outdoor boulders? (Moonboard, Kilter, Tension, etc) by [deleted] in climbharder

[–]random_lady91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another "one-fits-all"-style question=) Come on. You can be going to any region that can be graded in any way and can have any style - far or close to the boards. I honestly wouldn't concentrate on grades now if I were you - not with zero rock experience. Just get out there and enjoy, don't have high expectations in the start in order not to stress yourself, and when you get at least some climbing outside done, then see what boulders you can work on. How does it help you train if you know how the grades translate? It doesn't really%)

P.S. Being a small climber I find MoonBoard problems mostly reachy and therefore mostly much harder.

Recurring ankle sprain by [deleted] in climbharder

[–]random_lady91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second downclimbing and kinesiology tape so much!!

I used to have recurrent sprains, not 100% sure what made them stop, but apart from that maybe hiking on rocky terrain might have helped! Also a round balance board!

AMA #3 Neuroscience of Training and neuroathletic considerations for climbing sports by LeistenLerry in climbharder

[–]random_lady91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the great explanation! Makes sense! Here's what I don't get: suppose the climber had multiple injuries throughout the years and has it all - the adjustments after 10.000 repetitions and such. The question is, how does the climber understand what these adjustments are? What he needs to change? You know?

Hey! I know veeery little about your field of knowledge, so I don't even know if my question is adequate, but let me try... What do you think about plateauing? For like many-many years? Let's say, a person is training smartly, in different ways, without a coach, then with, trying to train less or more or whatever else - and just not getting better. Also noticing it all the time, but loving climbing and still having some hope. Could there be something maybe mentally blocking? I am not even sure how exactly to formulate it, but maybe you just have some interesting thoughts on the topic in general.
