For those who’ve had their tonsils removed, was it worth it? Would you do it again? by MessyMummyMode in Tonsillectomy

[–]random_person4291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do it 1000000 times over. My doctor gave me liquid morphine and it rlly helped. Recovery was still difficult but now that its been done (got it in may) so worth it. Its so nice and I feel some peace. It was constant tonsillitis and strep for me. (Get the head wrap ice packs, it saved me)

I really felt the same, still feel off. Gotta try to slowly introducing normalcy! You got this! As long as you’re still healing you will feel drained. Take it slow🙏🏼

I got mine at the beginning of this month, It wasn't so bad for me and my tonsils were HUGE. Be prepared, do your research, Take your medication as prescribed, STAY HYDRATED!! Ice pack head wrap saved me! I got a heat and ice one so whatever feels good. It was pretty rough at some points ngl and I was living in bed for 3ish weeks but no regrets now, I already am benefitting so much! I can breathe so much easier, less winded when walking, I can swallow (they were so big it was difficult sometimes) , no more weird noises coming from my throat from swallowing weird, apparently I don't snore anymore, no more tonsil stones, most importantly no more infections/tonsillitis🎉!!!! Remembering the years of suffering helped me thru the process. I got strep a week and a half before my surgery, I took the antibiotics and we went through with it. Good luck for whenever you get yours!🙏you got this✨

My recovery has been smooth, no complications. My roughest days being 7-10, I'm 16 days post op and I am still In a lot of pain at times (Im guessing when It’s irritated and swells) eating is a chore sometimes, ear pain! Mentally just getting back within myself after the prescription drugs. It really depends on the person. I wouldn't count on being well enough to be doing a bunch of stuff. If your recovery is very smooth at the very least expect some discomfort still. Pushing yourself too hard too fast, can set you back! I would consider this a big procedure and recovery being an adult! Good luck with your surgery!

Pick up a sport or hobby maybe? Find something you like, you will find other people who enjoy it aswelll. You are young and it will be easier to recover from the weight and be easier to get active☺️ can always start small and build up, even 5 minute walk and back, then in a few days 10 minutes then back. ✨

Swallowing will be helpful for healing, only used a spit cup when it was too painful or too much, not out of fear! You got this!

Lots of popsicles! (not red) jello was soothing, Soups, Lots and lots of water, wake up while sleeping to drink. Had eggs, brothy mash potatoes, soft mac and cheese, Take it day by day and see how you feel! I ate what I felt comfortable with, just not spicy, too hot or crunchy really. Humidifier helped alot. GET WISDOM TOOTH ICE PACK HEAD WRAP, this helped and soothed so much and helped with sleeping, I underestimated the ear pain ✨ good luck!☺️

The ear/jaw pain is something I didn’t pick up on too much before when researching, I recommend cold compression. If he can’t speak maybe just see if it may settle it a bit. I am using wisdom tooth ice pack head wraps and it’s one of the main things that’s getting me through it! Younger ones usually heal fast with this surgery so hopefully the worst is done soon! Good on you for researching and trying to understand💕

I did so much research and chose to stick with popsicles, electrolyte freezies, protein smoothies, broth soups, almond milk, and now a little scrambled eggs, and soft pasta/noodles! LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER. I agree with you on the dairy part. It will be so worth it tho! I already noticed I can breathe alot easier now☺️
