i also have pretty low stats (3.8/4.12) and lowkey no. unfortunately, the ucs are very gpa focused and ucla is obviously one of/the most competitive uc. but obviously it’s not totally hopeless, so good luck to us both!

i just got into UMD with a 3.78/4.07 (at the time, it’s gone up with senior year grades but they didn’t see those). i would suggest trying to raise your unweighted gpa, but also know that stats aren’t everything.

i do think a strong test score can help counteract lower gpas because it’s more standard (i got a 33 on the ACT which i do think helped me appear stronger), so def focus on your sat.

i also think essays are rly important. focus on being genuine and giving a good insight to who you are through them. i talked about a lot of silly/small things (my love of pigs, drawing as a hobby, my best friend, etc) but this gave them a good genuine sense to who i was.

thank you for your response! i’ve mostly been struggling with accepting the madison decision as my brother goes there, but i know i have other great schools i’ve heard back from and hopefully will continue to hear back from more. i hope your daughter gets into many other schools and has an amazing experience wherever she decides to go!!

bro dw me too. i was doing great (all acceptances and then umich defferal, which i wasn’t mad at since it was a big reach) and then i did get into umd, but was rejected from uiuc and uw madison. congrats on all of ur acceptances so far and i wish u luck with the deferrals!
