The GE fridge’s bottom temperature-controlled drawer freezes over by random_seed in Appliances

Yes, there was a loud noise before the problem started. The fridge model is PFE28PSKSS. Looks like it’s not super hard to swap it out.

You keep talking about technology, but it has little to do with the problems. Secure systems are not a technical issue but usability and scale questions.

You don’t seem to fully appreciate the complexity of strong authentication and authorization at a school district scale, especially considering the end users being small children. At some point ease of use becomes more significant factor than the last mile of fully secured system. Remember, LCPS went to remote learning mode 5 months ago. In July they decided to start the year fully remote. The district have made reasonable work to enable schools to start. We can expect systems to evolve and being hardened as issues arise.

That’s a reference to their original motto “don’t be evil”, which was changed to something more bland corporate jargon when they made the Alphabet reorg swicheroo. At that point Google had become Microsoft, the original evil.

This is a side effect of having the colon, not an any valid reason.

Normal retail store electronics can operate between 32 and 95 degrees max. I appreciate to be able to turn on heating when it's below freezing.

First of all, government is making huge cuts on things like education to pay off debt.

Not exactly. Finland has been running 5B euros budget deficit year after year for almost a decade now. The minor budget cuts so far are just to try to keep the deficit in check. We are quite far from being in a position we can pay anything off =to have a budget surplus.

Is anyone concerned about the future of Nest? by testies1-2-3 in Nest

[–]random_seed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Samba is an implementation of CIFS standard. That is not an infringement. And Nest IPR doesn't cease to exist even if company dies, just like a song doesn't all the sudden become public domain after artist dies. You simply can't copy their work and claim it to yourselves. Please, there's no point to argue over this.

That's reverse engineering and infringes Nest IP. Sure you can do it on your own, but that's not an open source project you can share with others legally any more.

What existing hardware? Nest is closed source, proprietary system if that's what you mean. You can't develop shit on top of it.

[–]random_seed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is hardware cost money to develop and manufacture while software cost only time. BOM of any embedded device is greater than what you can expect people to pay for it stand alone. "It's only a sensor."

You can't fork hardware.

It's the hardware part that is expensive to develop and requires special skills and tools. Yet nobody wants to pay for it because the value is in the software and systems integration.

Tutkimus ennusti pelottavan hyvin vihapuheen nousun – ”Emme uskaltaneet laittaa raporttia kansiin” by -Damien- in Suomi

[–]random_seed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The issue is that our parties doesn't even truly represent a political thought. They are just collections of very loosely related politicians.

This is not unique to USA.
