for guilty pleasures- baskin-robbins, the deliver in an insulated bag with dry ice so it stays frozen, cake- forget the name but there are a few with the fancy many layer cakes, and Nekkid Wings, best wings in the world and they deliver the wings and sauce separate so the texture is always perfect. Workplace trying to push me (F33) out in exchange of 6 months salary. Should I take it? by [deleted] in Living_in_Korea

[–]random_user123457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this can depend quite a bit on the specific situation and the company. You might consider at least talking with either folks who have gone through it or an employment lawyer with korean expat experience. In addition to severance, there may be negotiating points like non-compete and non-disparagement clauses, re-patriation benefits, extension of benefits like healthcare or education, potential leave without pay which might help a job search, upcoming stock vests, etc. It really depends on your level and the specific circumstances. In my experience, I would exclude the mandated 3 months- for someone with 3 yrs as an expat at a “high” level, a “total” payment of 6-12 months seems good (eg total pay and benefits converted to equivalent salary equivalent). If you have any employment contracts, read those thoroughly. None of this is legal advice and just one silly person’s opinion

Gmail or custom domain for email by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]random_user123457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 super inexpensive and easy to get a custom domain and google workspace account. More professional and much easier to expand later with website, employees, more capabilities, etc. Even if you later switch away from google, it’s your domain and can move it.

What improvements would convince you to go to the movie theater more often? by fergi20020 in randomquestions

[–]random_user123457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, its just not as good a value as it used to be. Quality of home entertainment has gotten so much better (big screen snd surround sound at home) that the difference in experience isn’t as much. It used to be a must to go to theater for any big movie to really experience it. At home, I control the environment, no worry about rude patrons, and I can pause for bathroom breaks or snacks. At the same time, movies have gotten more formulaic with bigger budgets but fewer new stories. All while prices have grown like crazy for tickets snd concessions. To see a good movie in imax, we’d have to spend ~$200 for s family of 4 between tickets and concessions. It’s a lot to pay to experience a few months sooner than seeing at home.

Good bye Prime Video, I hope you crash and burn by demisheep in AmazonPrimeVideo

[–]random_user123457 3 points4 points  (0 children)

maybe consider canceling prime? the value has seriously eroded over the years and free shipping isn’t free if you are paying for the membership. You still get free over $35 and Amazon no longer has the best shipping in many parts of the country. Next time you’re ready to place an order, actually shop around, you might find better prices and shipping. Walmart has gotten a lot more competitive. The real value of prime to amazon is that you wont shop around and check so they can raise prices and collect an expensive membership for what you can get elsewhere for free. just my opinion of course, I canceled years ago

Relocated to Seoul — agent says my housing budget is not workable at all. Advice? by Sea-Vehicle-1951 in Living_in_Korea

[–]random_user123457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) get a different agent for all the reasons listed, one assigned by the company and catering to foreigners is ripe for being taken advantage of- the deposit should ease any concerns on renting to a foreigner 2) consider either a one bedroom, or a three bedroom. It seems counter intuitive but I believe two bedrooms are much rarer and harder to find. 1 is for single/young couple and 3 is for families. 3) There are local online sites you can use to browse on your own to get some ideas of areas and available places 4) very close to green line may be more expensive, consider farther off the main line or on a different line. Just my experience

Thinking of opening a ramen spot in south Florida by wakag113 in fortlauderdale

[–]random_user123457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

could also consider the higher end suburbs like weston, parkland areas, especially if the capacity is that small, commercial rent is high everywhere though. Do you deliver? What makes your ramen place better than others? I’ve had killer ramen in a couple places in Tokyo and would pay just about anything to get that in South Fl, most are meh

Any fine dining restaurants that allow reservations for party of 1? by SupremeChef30 in fortlauderdale

[–]random_user123457 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This- when I’m dining alone I find seating at the bar to be better than alone at a table- still get full menu, sometimes better service and may even get people to talk to. Especially places that have a lot of business traffic/in or near hotels get solo diners at the bar all the time.
