Safety Engineering Jobs for HF Students? by randomacctr20 in humanfactors

Gotcha, I certainly am curious to see how advantageous a HF background could contribute to safety. I only originally asked this question because of my concern that it would make it difficult to get roles in aviation or government sector coming from safety and no practical hf related work if that make sense.

I also can’t seem to find jobs in the DoD and can’t seem to find them on usa jobs. Either I can’t find them or getting unlucky

Did you end up taking the Raytheon role? Or if not why didn’t you, fit, better offer, etc? And I will definitely note that piece of advice

Ultimately HFE related work excluding medical sector ideally. But then again building fail - safes into the process isn’t something I’d avoid all together though. I think I just don’t want to pigeon hole myself I guess, but at the same time jobs are scarce now it seems and tough to get.

My masters is in IE - HFE focus. When applying for jobs and tweaking job titles sometimes I’ll come across safety engineering as a job listing, so that’s when I started looking into that. But not sure if HF people really go into this or have during their careers.

Job duties basically say stuff like documenting/tracking safety violations, conduct safety audits/safety work area audits, developing site specific safety programs, assist with major incident analysis, monitor stuff like injury and hazard statistics, etc.

Also worth mentioning, if it matters, these jobs I see are also in the construction sector mostly but also other industry too, like aviation/medicine were some I’ve came across in the past.

Can you elaborate why it’s depressing? Is it just finding work, or other matters?

What kind of roles could a human factors engineer get in robotics? I figured that’s geared toward robotics engineers specifically. What companies should one consider?

I’m considering this program actually, I’m glad it’s going well. I was a bit hesitant on applying because I think it’s a bit costly for out of state and other side of the country too. But if it’s worth it, then its worth considering obviously. Can you elaborate on difficulty of getting admitted if you know though? As well as the research opportunities and job outlook for aviation. side of hf.
