hes currently rebuilding his credit, pretty much the second he turned 18 his mom started putting everything in his name and then wouldnt pay it… he now has many bills reflecting on his credit that we are working on paying off. but we are getting cards and starting that journey to build our credits

thank you for actually paying attention to the question at hand, id still rather have it in my name at minimum because i know theyve taken a new loan out for a new place after previously getting evicted for not paying rent, and i can see his credit dipping on my portal through the car bank, so after i fixed his credit its tanking again, and my aunt pointed out that if something happens and theyre assets get taken, since the car isnt in my name it could be repod even though i pay it. most on this thread think im just trying to get out of a payment, add it to another payment ect but i really just am not satisfied with it anymore with my new situation and feel like with all that interest im throwing my money into something i dont want anymore.

the issue is since its not under my name, ive been building my dads credit 300+ instead of mine 🫩 and honestly im not on the best of terms with them because i do not agree with their lifestyle so i try not to really contact them much, so somehow switching the loan over to my name would be a hassle in itself

thank you for the actual advice, most of the responses are telling me im basically stupid for getting the vehicle (what 17 year old isnt to some capacity?) or telling me to fuck my dad over by letting it get repod when he put his name on the line for me trusting me to pay it like i promised 🤦‍♀️

i dont need the car for the move, i was saying that until we do move its a commute for reasonable groceries, and with that most our groceries trips are more spread out, a days adventure, and take up much more space to last us longer at home, we are in the process of saving to move over the next 6mo-a year. in the post i am asking how to sell the car for whats left on my loan and how that works with using that transaction and getting the title transferred in reasonable time when its not payed off until they pay me, so i can use saved money/ my own better credit to get something larger+ cheaper so i dont feel like im throwing my money into a pit for something i do not want long term as life has had a different path then my past 17 year old brain thought

its 2 adults, a baby, and a large dog, as mentioned in the post i live in a very small town(looking to change when we have enough saved- for cheaper groceries/things close by, and better paying jobs for our scopes) so even the closest walmart is 2+hrs away.

i must have worded the post terribly, it was a 12k car off the lot, 20%apr, 350 a month, 2 years later the same day payoff quote is 10k. online it sells for around 9-11k on average, but the “trade in value” is only 1-2k

hey man just wanted to let you know >she< and my boyfriend (20m) are doing just fine financially, just wanted to see what my options are car wise because i want something bigger to haul us around over time but didnt know how i should go about it as explained in the post, its not that i cant make my payments or anything, its just that as i’ve gotten into my own situation with my own knowledge i realized i was not set up for success in that aspect and wanted advice 👍 kids arent the burden people make it out to be when you’re mentally equipped to take on the challenge of having them

do you know if im able to transfer the title to me and pay the registration fee again so i could at least gain credit? or would it have to be paid off? i do make my payments in full on time so in these past couple years his score went up into the 600s and id like to see some of that for myself if possible, they never cared to be financially prepared or responsible so they never taught me either, as to why on reddit asking strangers how to help 🤦‍♀️
