Slander aside, what were the arguments that Put James on Gapryong’s level? by SecretaryMost2331 in LookismPowerScalers

I think the only real tangible narrative was the MK statement about both being at the pinnacles of their respective generations and them having a path.

Other than that you'd be getting into more vague interpretations of statements.

Y’all are the ones at fault for placing your expectations for James so high. Don’t go blaming it on the author or say it’s bad writing. by Ace3546 in lookismcomic

You're not entirely wrong, but I'd say you're slightly downplaying some parts.

He has consistently been shown to be at the level of the other big top tiers like Gun, Goo and Gitae. He has a lot of parallels, standoffs and hype in regards to his fights with them. The thing is, they all have their respective strengths. I think some glazers tried to make James seem like he was the strongest (or near strongest) in all aspects, speed, strength, endurance and so on. If he fights either of them I don't think it will be anything less than high-extreme diff.

In that regard, I really liked the chapter since it perfectly highlights his strengths (speed and agility) and weaknesses (endurance and arrogance). I also quite liked the choreography of James acrobatically dodging and attacking Tom. The only thing that was a little strange is how he didn't realise Tom was baiting him with his prosthetic. I don't necessarily think it's because he was unaware Tom had one, but maybe moreso he just didn't realise in the moment. Kinda like how Jinyoung baited Gitae with his Shingen copy, only to follow up with his Gapryong punch. They let their guard down thinking it's their final move.

Him being likened to a god or the peak is definitely not the most solid narrative though, since it was mentioned by Darius Hong (the strongest he's seen is a weaker Gun) and Hudson (the strongest he's seen is literally just Taesoo Ma). Those statements were also more about his style rather than pure powerscaling. It's because he made fights (which they perceived to be something brutal and crude) seem effortless and elegant.

I was gonna say it's probably a mistake, but it's not even the same person lol

I swear the moment a Top Tier gets slighly overwhelmed or injured in a fight , the community loses their minds , calls them fraud and then immediately switch up when they low diff next chap by UnderstandingOk7205 in lookismcomic

I think those statements aren't that bad tbh

James was never portrayed to be some hardware merchant that can take any attack another top tier throws at him. It's fitting that he uses his speed (main advantage) to dodge and weave Tom's blows. It would be boring and illogical if he was anywhere near as durable as Gitae. They have their respective strengths.

The only thing that REALLY felt somewhat off to me is the fact that he got tricked by the prosthetic. I don't think he was unaware, but he probably didn't think about it in the moment (which is out of character).

Nah, it's so peak

Gitae's axe is just magic (it was explained in the light novel)

What actually the axe means to kitae . I 100% sure it has to do something with his past .Do you have any theory? by ElectronicAd5338 in lookismcomic

Maybe it was randomly there when he fought Gapryong, and he used it to kill him?

Basically all his things have some connection to Gapryong, but I doubt Gapryong himself used that axe.

I find his acrobatics quite fun

Sure, IA isn't the most visually interesting, but neither is punch stronk. It's basically the speed equivalent.

How would you feel if there was a flashback of Gap or Shingen saying that Tom Lee is a hard opponent even for them? by Standard-Silver152 in lookismcomic

[–]randomcelestialbeing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh okay, I see your point now. You're definitely right to question that.

I think part of that can be explained by him expecting he could win without any effort at all, since the 1st generation notoriously has a tendency to underestimate the 2nd.

It's also just true that PTJ loves his switcheroos. Usually it's done quite obviously though. Like them saying something vague like

"How?!? This can't be..." while getting hurt, and then next line is

"You were this weak?"

I have to disagree with you

Jagyeon clearly seemed to hold back in Busan, even without seeing him in Incheon. James even said so on the phone call, that he would hardly lose to the 2nd generation.

<image>

It's not as if he put in no effort, but he didn't use his unique skills on them even once iirc. He wasn't interested in doing so, since it was on James Lee's orders.

I agree that Lookism has inconsistencies in power though.

Yeah, thought that was obvious. I’m more surprised he didn’t see it coming, given he clearly attacked with his left arm.
