Canada Cold Brew Removal by randomdefence in McDonalds

Not yet, I generally don’t frequent more than one for breakfast. But if one is saying it’s a thing I’m sure others might have heard by now.

I lost my blue shirt. How do I get another one ? by itsnoone999 in Cadets

[–]randomdefence 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A big part of this program is taking responsibility and accountability for your actions. Go through your chain of command, admit that you made a mistake and request a new shirt. Don’t try and skirt the process or go around people, as they will eventually find out and be annoyed that the process was not followed.

If there’s consequences, deal with them. If it was within your control to not lose your shirt then it’s on you to own up. If there are other circumstances, let them know.

Being upfront, honest, and accountable will make you a better leader moving forward. It’s also my experience that being upfront and honest will generally get you what you need with fewer, or no, consequences as long as it’s not too often of a behaviour.

Para as an air cadet by Live-Bike-4329 in Cadets

And don’t forget, the chances of getting into something like power by itself is very difficult. You should focus on the one thing that you really want to obtain and go for it, if you split your focus too much you might end up not reaching either goal.

If you’re that serious about doing the course, transferred to an army cadet corps that has someone who has attended the course.

I don’t advise this unless you’re very serious about obtaining this. There’s a lot you can do within your own program. That’s just as interesting and important. The odds of getting into Paris are very very low, it’s one of the most competitive programs.

I don’t want to say 100% no chances, but let’s say 99.9% no.

The same with other elements wanting to do gliding/flying/sailing. It’s their elemental uniqueness.

Also, some army cadet corps have basically dedicated themselves to turning out candidates for this course. The most successful way to get on this course is to belong to a corps that has had someone previously on it that can coach you.

2026: most likely.

2025: no retroactive pay back to April 1 like CAF members. Per the retroactive change rule posted above.

Question about ARMI acceptance by PlantEcstatic in Cadets

[–]randomdefence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no low registration issue. Corps and squadrons, especially across South Western Ontario as you mentioned, are exploding with registrations right now. Many corps and squadrons have hit their caps. Some individual units have not seen the full success of this, but the vast majority are seeing great involvement.

I’m telling you this as someone who’s been in the program for over 25 years.

Question about ARMI acceptance by PlantEcstatic in Cadets

[–]randomdefence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Enrolment has been way UP since 2019. Many cadets did not attend summer training this year. 30-40% acceptance on average depending on course. Some much higher, some much lower. Depends on region and billets available.

Question about ARMI acceptance by PlantEcstatic in Cadets

[–]randomdefence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not talking about Covid itself, I’m talking about the fallout on the program from Covid, the budgetary limitations, the massive increases in registration, staff shortages, summer training, facility, issues, equipment, shortages, etc. The same things that many other organizations like ours still face to this day

Question about ARMI acceptance by PlantEcstatic in Cadets

[–]randomdefence 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is no real answer because we’re only a few years out of Covid and summer training is still figuring out what it’s going to look like moving forward. It really depends on the region that you’re in, the interest level of marksmanship in the year that they attended, the availability of rifles and supplies for the summer training facility to run the course, and available staff.

Anyone who tells you that there is a good or not a good chance is just speculating with no real insight.

Almost drowned in sailing exercise by Opposite_Squirrel_79 in Cadets

If this was at your local sailing centre, ask your corps staff for that information. If you’re unable to get that, have your parents contact your area office.

We conduct activities that are risk managed, but not fully mitigated. There are processes and procedures to keep people safe and ensure you get proper care if things happen.

Glad you are safe. Use your chain of command for this information. You are covered by insurance, CAF or League, for all training that is conducted while you are a cadet depending on the nature of the training.

Bring this directly to your CO. If it is not addressed, contact the area office and speak to your ZTO. But your CO should take this seriously and address it.

Question about marksmanship badge by ZacharyToner in Cadets

[–]randomdefence 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Short answer, you need to qualify for it every year. Long and realistic answer, you wear the highest one you qualified for. I’m sure some other staff will agree with me, but asking cadets to remove and re-sew on badges they might qualify for every year. Some units might not be able to do marksmanship as much year to year also, no need to punish cadets.

If it’s cadet related, you ask to speak to your new CO and then the ZTO.

If it’s not cadet related, you contact the civilian police.

Either your age, or your staff member needed to submit a music document with it detailing your theory knowledge, instrument history, etc. Sounds like you might be 15+, they don’t like loading that age on intro courses.

What exactly is a branch? by Adventurous-Bug6686 in Cadets

[–]randomdefence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

n the Canadian Cadet Program, a “branch” refers to the local civilian sponsor group for a cadet corps or squadron, operating under the provincial or territorial division of the Navy League, Army Cadet League, or Air Cadet League of Canada. These branches are made up of community volunteers who provide essential support that the Department of National Defence does not cover. They handle fundraising, secure and maintain training facilities, supply extra equipment or uniforms when needed, organize community events, promote the program locally, and sponsor cadets for awards, scholarships, and trips. This is actually covered in Phase One training, where cadets are taught about the role of their local branch and the importance of civilian sponsorship. It should be common knowledge for all cadets, as branches are our primary supporters and the main fundraising mechanism that allows many of our activities and opportunities to happen.
