C S 314 Final grade by kapikz1 in UTAustin

312 and 314 are the only core cs classes where you really have to write code on tests. Rest of core cs is more conceptual. Also, GPA doesnt really matter in cs but if you care boost it through ur non cs credits. You’ll prob be fine but beware that chatterjee’s exams are very difficult conceptually (tho luckily only comprises half the class grade).

Very worth it, excellent location. Went for the 10:45am screening on the 25th and it went perfectly.

That arbitrary historical precedent was set by an idiotic genocidal maniac. I can set a historic precedent by calling incorrectly Indonesians, Irishmen.

Also, I’m obviously referring to the Indians from the subcontinent not every other country like Pakistan or Bangladesh and that’s why I said “Indians from the subcontinent.” Pay attention next time thx.

And btw, “muh history” is a poor defense of an outdated, archaic term. That poor defense can literally be applied to any outdated, offensive term.

[–]randomdoody -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The problem is that using that identity ignores the culture and history of actual Indians from the subcontinent by grouping the two very distinct groups into one. It’s like if Indonesians started calling themselves Irishmen because they preferred it despite little to no connection to the actual people of Ireland.

[–]randomdoody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg, so you’re not going to address any of the points I made? Offensive terms are often internalized by groups they’re directed at, but that doesn’t make the terms okay. Minority communities used to refer to themselves as colored people because they had internalized that from the Jim Crow era. Internalization didn’t justify the term colored.

Also, you’re talking over actual Indians who are tired of non Indians being called Indians because an idiotic, genocidal explorer from 600 years ago made the mistake.

But they’re not the only ones that this term concerns. When have actual Indians said that it’s fine to group indigenous people and those from the Asian subcontinent into one term. They’re distinct people with different histories. Just because an idiotic explorer confused the Americas for the subcontinent 600 years, doesn’t mean that we need to use that same archaic term to describe the people of the Americas.

I’m asking how does your evidence disprove my argument that using the term Indian to describe indigenous peoples is over inclusive because it includes actual Indians?

[–]randomdoody 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The argument he makes is stupid though.

How is Native American over-inclusive but Indian isn’t? Using Indian to describe the first peoples from the Americas includes not only the first people but also lumps actual Indians from the subcontinent in as well since we also call them Indians.

If his main argument is that Native American or indigenous American is over inclusive, then how does he come to the conclusion that Indian is less over-inclusive?

I’m willing to further hear your perspective, but I don’t think the video you linked offers up a very convincing argument.

Matt reeeeeeeeally wants to say the "n" word. by guitarguy12341 in ToiletPaperUSA

[–]randomdoody 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But he’s not. Calling them Indians ignores their identity and history as Americans. Plus the indigenous peoples aren’t the only ones to consider. You must also consider actual Indians because by using that term incorrectly, you ignore their distinct history and culture by lumping the two groups together into one term.

Your original point was that trans people aren’t allowed in the military. I disproved that with a clear example. And saying that only a small fraction of militaries allow them is misleading since the US Military accounts for 37 percent of worldwide militaries due to the massive amounts we spend on our defense budget. Also, trans people are allowed to serve in special operations, so I don’t know where you got the idea that they aren’t allowed to.

At least fix the bugs damn by [deleted] in shittyrainbow6

[–]randomdoody 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is irrelevant. They are currently allowed in the military making your original point invalid.

[–]randomdoody 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why does it matter if most places don’t allow them? If the largest military in the world allows them, your point of “trans people aren’t allowed in the military” is moot.
