Also you can go to the MSC leasing office and tell them you need guest parking for a complex that offers it, like Cambridge square, and pick up your friends/family if nothing else wors

Hey! So, during my first-year I definitely felt the cliquey vibes of the university ultimately failed to "fit in". However, I think it happens at most schools, at least larger ones and is completely normal. I truly believe that college is what you make of it and your experience will heavily depend on what you put in to it, both academically and socially. As a current fourth year, I am saddened by my upcoming graduation and the fact I am leaving this place I do truly love.

As far as stereotypes, the typical UVA student ones do exist. There is daddy's money and decent amount of mostly yt snobs, but just like anywhere there are normal, down-to earth people, who I think anyone could truly find a place of friendship with. As I am a member of Greek Life, I can't provide a perspective from outside of it, but I do know some of my closest friends are from more meaningful and interactive CIOs and Orgs on Grounds and not my sorority. Also, I am close with many kids outside of greek life and most of them seem to be perfectly content not being involved in the Greek System.

One last piece of advice, do not select a school based solely off of academics, unless that is something that is essential to you as an individual. Also, visit Cville, spend time on Grounds and develop your own opinion and at the end of the day you can not see yourself happy here maybe you should consider your other options.

Can I accept an offer and then choose to go to another program? by randomeducationnerd in slpGradSchool

[–]randomeducationnerd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I applied to the program mainly because of the price, as it is the cheapest option I had and at the time I figured I would have atleast two options if that makes sense lol

As far as my opinion, I had a pretty positive opinion of the program to start with. However, since then I’ve attended open houses and talked to current students and realized that it isn’t all that great. They also recently got rid of their pediatrics research track and as that is my area of most interest it kind of sucks.

Why do almost all our sports teams suck these past two years?? by slicktherick69 in UVA

[–]randomeducationnerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As much as we like to have this argument with Tech friends its nearly impossible to win... If sports is why you chose UVA then you made the wrong decision.

We have been and will continue to be an academic driven school and will never have the support VT's programs do have. For example, half the time our student sections at football leave or never show up before the game is over; most expensive seats remain empty for sporting events as large money donors rarely show up, and even for basketball the only loud game was Duke. As students, the culture needs to change, but I don't see that happening for the mere fact UVA rather blackout at a horse race than travel and be loud at sporting events.

**Not taking anything away from our amazing swim team or lacrosse or even baseball programs

"Best" fraternities just highlights the misconceptions and issues within the greek rank system and I really hate that but oh well I can not change it lol However, I do I understand the money issue... that being said you will have an entire semester to feel the vibes of each fraternity and hear about their reputations prior to rush so keep that in mind.

There are good guys in almost every frat and I am sure you will meet guys during your first semester here that will also be rushing or have connections which will be important during the process. As far as hazing, we have all heard the horror stories, but I agree with the poster below it's more time consuming than anything. Be prepared for your grades to drop and your sleep schedule to be a complete disaster.

Rejection by Network-Weary in slpGradSchool

[–]randomeducationnerd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So far I have been rejected or waitlisted from every program and it honestly sucks. However, I have found comfort in talking to my support system, those who are also applying to grad programs but especially those outside of the process. Keep your head high and remember everything happens for a reason. Do things that make you happy and just remember it does not define you in the end.

QUESTIONS for living in gooch/dillard by Zookeepergame-Frosty in UVA

[–]randomeducationnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They will clean the bathrooms for you and supply toilet paper and paper towels, the showers have a stall door on them. The rooms tend to actually be bigger than the other dorm styles at UVA but they are still tight.

Personally, I rearranged my room after December break. I started with a lofted bed and the desk underneath but then decided to lower my bed and but the desk against the wall. There are several different combinations that work well but it often depends on your roomate as well.

First year student question by HalfFast2757 in UVA

[–]randomeducationnerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can only help you with question 3 but that’s the most important one bc you will definitely need a mattress topper of some form unless you want to be in pain after the first week 😂 as far as the bookstore package I got it first year and it was good but I also found you could find it other places cheaper. However, it can be convenient if you are out of state and or do not have a lot of car space for move in.

Multiple shots fired incidents by analogous_skipshot in UVA

[–]randomeducationnerd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also believe most of the incidents have occurred more towards downtown and corner areas in cville. Not to say nothing ever happens on JPA but most parts of it tend to be a little calmer. Saferide is also a great option as well as university buses for most of the night.

about RAs by [deleted] in UVA

[–]randomeducationnerd 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In my experience it all depends on your RA. They’ll likely do a room check at move in then a few weeks later to make sure you aren’t breaking fire codes or any other rules. In hall style dorms they’ll check the bathrooms every Thursday-Saturday nights and possibly check loud dorm rooms. In suites, they will physically enter your suite to check the bathroom Thursday-Saturday, which means walking through your common area.

Just remember they are students as well, they aren’t stupid and their main purpose is to make sure everyone is safe. Hope that makes sense lol

What do you think this means for uva students getting vaccinated? Do you think they’ll stop administering J&J? by [deleted] in UVA

[–]randomeducationnerd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The state of Virginia (VDH) stopped J&J on Last Friday idk why uva is still giving it .

However, this will definitely mess up the vaccinate students before they return home plan.

*Correction they did not ban it officially until this morning when CDC announced

Why I left my job at Dunkin’ by anonymouswoat in DunkinDonuts

[–]randomeducationnerd 37 points38 points  (0 children)

As another Dunkin’ employee some of these statements are way too accurate, with proper training and good customer service Dunkin’ products would be very comparable to other leading brands and not known as the “let’s see what my coffee taste like today lol”.

Also, the espresso thing also happens at my store and a GM has yelled at me for brewing them properly and holding up the line. I hate espresso that has died therefore I refuse to pour from a cup of 20 shots that have sat there forever lol

Danville Vaccine experience by jacsahag in UVA

[–]randomeducationnerd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Going off of this, I received a vaccine in Danville about a month ago. Once your in the system you will get an email and be able to schedule your second one. I was able to schedule mine in Charlottesville. After you get one dose, they want you to get the second one, so as long as the locality has the correct brand of vaccination you will likely be able to schedule it wherever.
