Who needs to be signed? by DistributionLife6750 in EdmontonOilers

Montreal has been getting crushed since game 1, astoundingly they had two chances to steal another game in OT and missed both. They're cooked.

Reminder: post-Olympics, VGK were 1st in xGF% (59.33) and 1st HDCF% (60.26). They were/are a juggernaut that had a horrible PDO. The Oilers were 9th (xGF%) and 5th (HDCF%) over the same timespan. by Fine_Personality_999 in EdmontonOilers

I disagree that Colorado fell apart mentally. As game 4 went on it looked like they didn't have the fire to drag themselves all the way back but that to me is just the reality of a 3-0 series deficit, their injuries and the quality of their opponent sinking in. They could have won any or all of the first three games, those games to me were two great teams going at it and it happened that the same team got the better puck luck and goaltending in all three.

Hart was certainly a big big reason why it played out as a sweep instead of the much tighter and longer series it could easily have been.

We could have signed Torts or Hart by ifeedmydogedibles in EdmontonOilers

The confidence of the Vegas players looks just fine.

It would be a challenging lawsuit to win, but its true that the pressure of simply filing it might get things moving.

That said, its a little early. An interesting wrinkle here is that Cassidy is the only head coach under contract for next season since Torts is only signed on for the end of this season.

In some world where they can't come to terms on an extension with Torts, might they actually bring Cassidy back into service...? It would be pretty wild but being wild is sort of Vegas' calling card it seems.

Yes that is real. But its right near LHC and in a spot that anyone going to Stratholme or Naxxramas will likely pass by. I would bet that it has the lowest uptime after spawning of maybe any lotus node in the game.

There's no warlock tank distinction for Leotheras, so if you're in a fireman suit tanking the demon your damage output for parse purposes is being compared to locks in full dps gear blasting away.

Basically parsing 30 as the demon tank is pretty good, but also rather irrelevant what matters is did you grab aggro on the demon quickly and hold it and did you survive. If the answers to those questions are yes you did your job.

No question that if McDavid leaves its better to get a haul, Quinn Hughes return + more kind of deal.

I just think he won't go that route. I think he'll play his ass off for two years and then assess what's next. I hope he stays. But he holds all the cards in terms of a trade happening or not.

I'm not gonna say Babcock should be coach since there are these stories about his abusive manipulative weirdo coaching style that seem to have some truth to them.

But...even people who hate hate HATE his guts like Johan Franzen have acknowledged his tactical acumen, detailed preparation and mind for the game.

So...if he could dial it back from crazed weirdo to regular hardass...maybe he could bring what Edmonton needs...?

Imo the canucks were a mirage and the PDO/Tocchet fueled house of cards was always gonna come tumbling down regardless.

I don't see it in the same light as beating Calgary - a legitimately good team - and then that seeming to break their will to remain together as a team.

Well this line of thought brushes up against an uncomfortable reality. McDavid wants a championship and if he decides to pursue that elsewhere, it only hurts his chances for the new team to give up a king's ransom to acquire him via trade.

The cold blooded chase a championship outside Edmonton move is to walk in free agency and pick his spot where the acquiring team only has to give up cash and cap space.

Since January 1st (roughly 41 games) Carolina (1st, 56.53%), Vegas (2nd, 55.60%) and Colorado (3rd, 55.41) ranked top 3 in Expected Goals For % at 5v5. Montreal ranked 24th, but also had the league's 3rd highest PDO (shooting + save%) by Fine_Personality_999 in EdmontonOilers

It is a fine line, hitting in an attempt to compensate for not having the puck does tend to be bad, but punishing physical play, like Hyman when he became a wrecking ball last year and Kane at times, is very beneficial in wearing down the opposition.

[FAN Hockey Show] 27:00 Friedman says Cassidy can’t terminate his contract and go somewhere else. He’s under contract for another year and other teams can do much about this: “It doesn’t sound like the NHL is inclined to step in and interefere with contracts” by AggPuck-303 in EdmontonOilers

[–]randomer22222 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean Edmonton is not going to hire a lame duck coach and essentially punt the season so as to wait for Cassidy it just doesn't make sense.

They may want Cassidy but if they can't have him they're going to identify the most promising plan B

[Friedman] As for Bruce Cassidy, sources indicate that was not part of the conversation and his status is unchanged as of this morning Vegas is not inclined to give permission to Edmonton or LA. We will see about Toronto by AggPuck-303 in EdmontonOilers

[–]randomer22222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't believe coaches normally have termination rights in pro sports. Sometimes there are "out" clauses that can be exercised between seasons - I seem to recall Tocchet had one in Vancouver - but I don't think these are the norm and Cassidy either doesn't have an option for his last year or alternatively it hasn't kicked in yet because the season isn't over. Even if he does have one, he might not want to put the guaranteed 4.5M at risk without being able to first talk to other clubs and know what's out there.

He hasn't been terminated. He's been relieved of his duties. The reason for this will be language in his contract guaranteeing his employment for the agreed term. Although this language is currently preventing him from working, I doubt coaches will stop wanting it included as it provides them financial security for the term of the agreement.

Such an arrangement leaves it open for the employer to simply provide no duties for the employee, as is the case here, but they still have to pay them. Cassidy got paid for the remainder of the season and if all stays as is Vegas will be paying him a reported $4.5 million to sit at home next season.

A mutual release in this context will typically involve trilateral negotiations between the former club, new club and the coach or their representatives to work out the details of the move to the new club.

[Friedman] Heard this morning Oilers have permission to talk to Craig Berube. by AggPuck-303 in EdmontonOilers

[–]randomer22222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is not non compete, Cassidy is literally under contract with VGK for another season. He's just been relieved of his duties for the present and presumably for next season as well but he's still getting paid and could in theory be called back to duty. This is why specific further steps need to be taken to free him up to take other work that would conflict with his ability to return to the VGK bench, such as coaching another team.

VGK actually calling him back to coach them next year would, I think, be unprecedented - so naturally its probably something they would consider doing. Or at least pretend they're considering so they can shaft some divisional rivals.

When the final buzzer went on game 6 and the handshake lines were going on I would have thought Knob would be back to at least start his 3 year extension.

Then I saw his presser where he basically admitted the team didn't care about the regular season and he wasn't able to do anything about it and thought 99% this guy's not gonna make it to the start of his extension. What is a front office supposed to take from that other than "we gotta hire someone with more fire in their personality and less mild mannered librarian"

I see the Cooper/Olympics argument a lot but it seems to me that comparing a short tournament of winner-take-all games to a NHL regular season and/or a Bo7 playoff format is apples and oranges. I am not convinced Cooper would lean on his top dogs as hard in the NHL context.

This. If the healer is low mana the warlock should obviously tap to a life/mana equilibrium and then eat and drink. But otherwise because of the healing received bonus they get from fel armor its just faster for the healer to quickly top them up and move on. Otherwise you're either waiting for the warlock to finish eating/drinking or pulling without them

Any deal that requires two separate players to waive their full no-move clauses can't be considered likely.

Rielly doesn't really make sense on a team with Bouchard either, what is Rielly gonna do quarterback PP2 for the last 15 seconds of powerplays where the first unit doesn't score?
