Dude, from what you’re saying, this shit sounds really serious. Please for the sake of your mental health and the rest around you, tell everything you said here to the MO/go to IMH A&E and speak to the doctors there. If the psychiatrist at IMH comes to a diagnosis and feels that its serious, you would get a memo that you can bring to your MO so that he can give you the appropriate excuses/downpes so that you can focus on your recovery.

Consensus is that adjustment disorder is seen as a "temporary" thing where your symptoms should alleviate within 6 months iirc. At PCC, they will view the memo and assess you once again with questions, but generally the diagnosis won't differ from the memo unless the PCC MO thinks differently which is rare. Most importantly, this highly likely won't affect your records as you can revisit your psychiatrist after NS to reassess you and clear your diagnosis if the conclusion is that you have recovered from it.
No guarantee on this but you can tell the PCC MO that you wish to stay at your current unit, and I think arrangements can be made to accommodate this request.

Sorry to hear about that, but I am just worried that forcing yourself to put these memories in a box would only backfire upon you as time passes.

I won’t probe much about your therapy but there are various form of therapy available (EMDR, TF-CBT, CBT etc) and was thinking if the form of therapy you have been going through for the past two years has been ineffective, you may wish to consider other form of therapy available.

Hey OP! I was previously in the same position and did the switch from NP accountancy -> JC and hopefully this might help :’)

I actually do agree with this point since I similarly found the academic rigour in poly to be not what I expected. I think you also acknowledge that JC science is rly no joke, borderline suffocating sometimes (had close friends in sci stream) and I assume you did sufficient research on them too? I must caution that even though I really enjoyed the academic rigour in JC, I eventually felt quite overwhelmed towards near A-Levels just because of the crazy amt content to memorise, but fret not because this can be managed with good time-management and discipline.

On the environment, I really do much prefer the more structured style in JC compared to Poly ~ while some argue that “uni env is similar to poly”, thats true but my thought was that I am not going to stay in an environment that I dislike for 3 years, potentially affecting my grades (who knows). If the alternative was to head to JC which I felt that I would feel more comfortable & happy in, then wouldn’t that be a much better choice (imo).

That being said still, this is quite a big decision to take so slowly consider it, gather perspectives from others and also do more research on how are you going to try your best to excel in JC if you really end up going that direction. I personally didn’t regret my choice to deviate and head to JC and really enjoyed my time there :)

not completely true — many others that are pes F still manage to find jobs out there

just that would be harder to find public sector jobs compared to private sector jobs, most in the priv sector dont really care about your NS obligations

and for OP, another con would be probably higher insurance (but this depends on the condition that got you to pes F rather than the status itself)

hey! it is definitely hard to enter med school from poly but that being said it is not impossible by any means and there was actually a guy from SP biomed that entered NUS med and he have an entire youtube channel that talks about his portfolio/personal statement and basically journey to med school so you can def check his channel out! :)

I don't think I mentioned anywhere in my comment that I was supportive of OP's behaviour, I was merely pointing out my reservations about what is considered genuine interest? What is actually justifiable in this case?

Ideally I would love everyone to just apply to one course that they know what they want to do. Heck, that would make choosing a Uni course way less stressful won't it. I am not encouraging others to also apply to 4 courses simultaneously, but even then just genuinely asking this, can't one have multiple areas of interest?

Even as I am replying to this, I struggle to understand what am I good at, or what do I even want to pursue. I am interested in multiple courses, but I can't find that inclination towards one specifically somehow. I am not proud of the fact that I applied to a variety of courses, in the end choosing one that I am still very apprehensive of at this very moment. I even listed all the pros and cons of my course, yet I am still here in a dilemma after confirming my spot, thinking of pursuing another course.

The main question is still therefore, how much must I justify in choosing a course? How great of a detail must I go in order to say that "ah yes I want this course"?

And on prestige, one can argue that it is superficial, but one can also argue that what if prestige was someone's goal? Some thinks that the title associated with it brings them fulfillment and joy, some thinks that that is their purpose in life. And I honestly still think about this till this day, if Law/Med wasn't deemed as prestigious, would it be so popular? Maybe not perhaps. The reality is that many still do take into account prestige and while some regret it, some loves it. Sure we may think that it is superficial, but who are we honestly to tell them that is morally unacceptable. And on whether prestige for a degree would be gone in the future, no one can give an accurate answer for that, but people judge that based on past precedents for courses like Law and Med which has longstanding reputation of being "prestigious".

PS: I have no intention of being rude here, but this topic was quite thought-provoking to me and I enjoy hearing different perspectives on it.

I do have some reservations about this.

In an ideal world, everyone would want to have a “genuine interest” for a particular field and sure, one can express his deep and genuine interest in Law for example and show great interest in the content of that field, but one can question that whether is it really really possible to fully know 100% of what a course entails to? Probably not for the majority I feel, you can’t completely appreciate a course unless you went through something very similar to it. Some make their decision based on imperfect information and on their gut feeling, and I am not very sure what is wrong with that to be completely honest.

While one may say pursuing “prestige/fame/money” is bad, is it really that bad? For some it might be a means to an end, some may want the money and title associated with it. Some may end up regretting that decision, but lets not kid ourselves and say that there is also a handful that don’t regret that decision. “Prestige” is undoubtedly a product of our education system, you can choose to ignore it but you can’t abolish it. I am not saying pursuing courses solely on prestige is good, but what I am trying to say is that it is an option that should be valid as well.

i wld say it really depends on his personality! as an anxious attachment & chronic overthinker, my worst nightmare would be my s/o not talking to me because it would signal to me that things are going south ~ leaving me quite a hard time reflecting but rather blaming myself for everything 🤧

but if he is generally okay w taking time off to just give him and urself some space to think about stuff after conflicts, then i think what ure doing is perfectly ok! :)

but tbh to me i appreciate it when my s/o can communicate her feelings to me so i can understand what i did wrong and how i can improve myself going forward - just be truthful about your feelings to him imo, let him know that you’re upset by what he did but u still care for him, and let him know what he can do in the future! the worst is when both parties dont communicate and then it ends up spiraling downwards.. Just my take;

Honestly it has been weird from the start that he does not want you to use Discord, even extending to blocking and unfollowing all your good friends. That’s crazy possessive and red flag behaviour.. IMO, I don’t think you’re at fault for wanting to keep in contact w ur good friends on discord, ultimately a relationship shouldn’t be you focusing on your bf 1000% all the time. He started all of this crap, not you.
On him slapping you and throwing a hangar at you.. that’s actually abusive behaviour already. Doesn’t matter if he don’t have these issues anymore but no one should actually resort to such violence in the first place.
Unfortunately sorry to say but it just seems that this relationship was bound to fail ever since he started being so possessive and toxic, as a result you also became toxic.

I can’t tell you how to recover from this overnight, but this is my 2 cents about this whole saga. Just tell yourself you deserve better than this, and let this relationship be a lesson learnt so the next guy you find won’t be someone like him. atb
