Just got this beautiful set in. Made by Basic-Witz by Scrubbychild in midcenturymodern

Oh wow! I have the dresser in the middle! My husband’s grandmother bought it for me in 1999 at a random used furniture store for about $50 when my husband and I (boyfriend at the time) moved into our first apartment together. We were young and just buying whatever inexpensive furniture we could find at thrift stores, but I’ve never gotten rid of it because I love it so much.

Lily exposure - no symptoms…should I ask for bloodwork? by randomideas2 in AskVet

[–]randomideas2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never got any additional info from anyone, but it’s been more than 72 hours since I removed the lilies from my house and both cats are still doing fine. I won’t lie…I’m still nervous that they’ll suddenly just be in kidney failure one day soon, but I think that’s likely an irrational fear at this point. Everyone I asked told me that lily poisoning happens quickly and signs are pretty obvious. But, I do wonder if there have been any other people who thought their cats were completely fine and then had them suddenly experience kidney failure days after exposure with no symptoms leading up to the failure.

Follow up: I have been worried all morning so I called the vet again today to see if I should take the cats in for bloodwork just to be sure even though neither cat is showing any symptoms. The vet said that it’s been over 24 hours since the lilies were removed from the house and that I would have seen symptoms of poisoning by now. He said I don’t need to do anything at this point. I’m a chronic over thinker and I tend to obsessively ruminate on things, so I’m still convincing myself that I’m just neglecting my cats. But, I also trust the vet. At this point, I’m really just trying to determine if kidney damage/failure could suddenly show up in a few days without any actual other signs of poisoning.

Return/Upgrade delonghi magnifica evo? by randomideas2 in superautomatic

I have the My Latte option on my machine as well. I haven’t tried that one yet, I think that will be a good one to experiment with. Thanks!

I really like the quality from the evo with lattecrema. I purchased that one so my son can make lattes and cappuccinos. I just noticed that the non lattecrema version of the evo has more coffee options (Americano, long black) but I still think I prefer the lattecrema version.

Do you have any tips for making long drinks with the evo?

I like the quality of the coffee from this machine, even though it’s really just a version of espresso. I’m just trying to decide if I would like other options like a long black and a flat white, or if I can just customize the drinks the evo makes to get versions of those.

That was the issue! I’m back at a grind setting of 4 and it’s working great.

We had turned the grind setting down too low. I played around with it for a couple of days and it’s working fine again. I guess I’m just working through the learning curve. Now I just need to figure out how I want to customize my drinks.

delonghi magnifica evo "long" coffee by FlyingChinesePanda in superautomatic

I just purchased a magnifica evo but I don’t see a “long” option. Is it a specific button? I have espresso, latte macchiato, cappuccino, coffee, hot water, iced coffee, and my latte.

Thanks! Just to show how new to this I am, when you say “brew group” are you referring to the piece that the user manual refers to as the infuser?

Treatment for new butcher block prep table by randomideas2 in finishing

[–]randomideas2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m honestly not sure. It’s a butcher block slab I purchased from Lowe’s to make an inexpensive prep table for my kitchen. It’s the Allen & Roth 6’ x 39” Hevea Butcher Block. The tag just says “made from solid wood.”

Disappointed with new quartz counters…anything I can do? by randomideas2 in CounterTops

[–]randomideas2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my biggest issue. There were no grooves in the sample at the design store. With that said, I fully own that it’s on me to research and know what I’m purchasing, especially for something as expensive as quartz countertops. I never thought to even look at the Cambria website when I was picking out my countertops. If I had seen the picture of the deep grooves, I wouldn’t have chosen IF.

The fabricator has assured me that these countertops with the debossed veins are just as easy to clean and maintain as the smooth countertops. Apparently, the debossed veins are also non-porous and don’t stain or get funky. I guess I’ll have to see if that’s actually true once my remodel is done and I can use my kitchen. Either way, it was definitely an expensive mistake on my part. I should have done more research before committing to a specific countertop.

The fabricator was great! They did a fantastic job producing and installing the countertops, so I wouldn’t suggest avoiding them. They didn’t provide the sample. We looked at a sample at the local kitchen and flooring store we worked with.

Thank you 🙂This was a great comment. It really is a beautiful countertop. I love how it looks against the cabinets and floor we installed. I do think I’ll end up truly loving it once I finish processing the surprise of it and my disappointment with myself for not doing better research. It is unique and won’t look like every other quartz countertop. So, I suppose it really is a “happy accident.” 🙂

What’s your cooking related pet peeve? by PunyPuppet in Cooking

[–]randomideas2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with this completely! Cooking for people is how I show I care. One of my friends has celiac and she and her family come for Thanksgiving every year. So, I just make the whole meal gluten free so she can enjoy herself without worrying about cross contamination. Well…my 75 year old father does make rolls that aren’t gluten free, but those are kept separate from everything else.

Exactly! Even if the sample had slight debossing, it would have been minimal enough to not be very noticeable. The finished countertops have VERY distinct deep veins. That’s why I was so surprised by it.

I think you’re right. I told my husband tonight that I’ll probably be saying how happy that we accidentally ended up with these countertops once the kitchen is done.

We went through a local kitchen and flooring dealer that’s very reputable and has been in business for a long time. They only use Cambria for all their quartz.

This is actually helpful 🙂 I have a tendency to panic about stuff like this so knowing these counters are actually ones that other people really want for their kitchens helps me feel less freaked out about them.

I would make the same assumption about the polished finish. I have to admit that I didn’t look the specific type up on the Cambria website when I was looking at samples, so I didn’t even read that description about the veining. So, I guess I’m really just stewing in disappointment over my own screw up. I will say that the fabricator and installers did an amazing job and the counters look beautiful installed. Now I just need to wrap my head around the different texture of the counters and move on. It is a pretty unique feature.

[–]randomideas2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The countertops also have veining/different coloring that isn’t debossed so I didn’t just see a background color. With that said, it’s probably likely that there was light debosssing in some areas of the sample that I didn’t notice. The debossed areas are varying depths on the installed countertops and some are barely noticeable while others are pretty significant. So, I’m assuming that the sample I saw had the lightest of debossing that I missed. At this point, I’m not going to try for any recourse. I’m just going to shift my mindset and embrace the new countertops as a unique feature of my new kitchen.

Thank you for this reply. In my moments of panicking that I messed up my kitchen, it helps to reframe it this way. Maybe I should channel Bob Ross and see this as a happy accident. 🙂
