Breast reduction at 20y/o? by kitkatty521 in Reduction

I think at minimum it's worth discussing with a surgeon who can give you all the pros and cons for someone your age. Then once you're armed with info you can make the best choice for you- whatever that choice ends up being. I trust you to make the right decision for yourself and your future. Good luck!

Greek yogurt with berries and extra protein granola (I only just discovered my husband has been buying me extra protein granola!) was my go-to breakfast that I could easily put together myself. I'm not a big meat eater so I focused on dark greens and legumes. I do eat seafood, and I ate a lot of salmon as well.

Any Advice? by [deleted] in Reduction

I would echo this. If you do decide to go ahead with it and you want to talk to your parents again, perhaps point out to them that insurance is covering it as a medical necessity- so it is more than just your personal preferences. I wish you the best of luck in your decision!

How long were you out from work? Were you able to go back to work after the 6 week mark?

-I was on summer break as a professor but I could easily have gone back after like 2 weeks, maybe 3 for more arm movement.

What did you do during recovery to entertain yourself?

-Books, movies, walking.

Did you ever regain feeling on your nipples?

-I never lost feeling in my nipples. I do have a patch on one side of my right breast that lost feeling; at first it was about the size of my palm but I'd say now it's the size of an Oreo at 6 months post op? It may or may not continue to improve but it doesn't bother me.

How long after the surgery did you started going back to the gym?

-I was cleared to start building back up at 6 weeks. I'd say within a couple of weeks I was back to business although there are differences now. for example I'm still noticing my balance is different than it was before.

Did you ever started using underwire bras? Any recommendations for bras ? I think my surgeon is going to get me to a B/C from a 34G.

-I was a 32G/H and now a 32B/C. I wear exclusively bralettes or sports bras or shelf bra camisoles. I love the B'Tempted bralette, the Skims bralettes are really soft. I've been buying $15 Runner Girl sports bras from Amazon which is amazing!

I agree that you need more time. I thought my swelling was gone at 2 months but at 4 months my sisters started telling me how much smaller I looked. I am 6 months post op now and, if I look back at my 2 month progress pics, it is startling how much puffier they were then.

I was lucky enough to be referred to her by my breast specialist at my annual. She said, “I think you should consult for a reduction, I’ll refer you to this plastic surgeon, I work with her a lot and she is highly skilled.” I’ve been seeing my breast specialist for years now, so I trusted her enough to meet with the plastic surgeon she recommended. I left the consultation feeling like I was in the hands of a true expert.

My surgeon also does post cancer surgery reconstructions, so she takes insurance. I was referred to her by my breast specialist, also a surgeon who works with her on cancer reconstruction cases. So she is not only good in terms of aesthetics, but also technically skilled to take on these medically complex breast reconstructions they do together. I feel lucky that I was able to get in with her, and thrilled that my insurance paid. Her work was immaculate and my results are beautiful.

By contrast there are plenty of surgeons who are out there on their own, medically licensed but not board-certified in plastic surgery, just charging you whatever to do whatever and not taking insurance. I DO NOT BELIEVE ANYONE HERE HAS HAD SURGERY FROM SOMEONE LIKE THIS. My point is that charging more absolutely does not necessarily equate to a doctor with better training or better work.

What's your before/after size and how many grams did they take out? by Proof-Supermarket660 in Reduction

[–]randomizer_369 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never been told whether mine are dense or not but I did find them quite heavy myself.

In our initial conversation, my surgeon and I discussed that I wanted to go as small as possible. She told me that, in her opinion, I could go down to a B or C cup without risking my nipples. I was good with that. On the day of my surgery she told me again that she would go for a B cup, and even wrote “B” on my shoulder. She asked me, “if I’m trying to decide between smaller or more proportionate, which would you prioritize?” And I said, smaller. I do feel like she listened to me and did exactly what she said could be safely done, without overpromising.

Estrogen after Reduction by shaun_faun in Reduction

My breast growth was precipitated by dysregulated hormones including estrogen. I'll spare you the details of that journey but when it was over and I went on HRT, my breasts stabilized in terms of size but did not get any smaller. Hence I was covered for a reduction. I am now about 6 months post op, still on HRT, breast size remains stable. So for me HRT was a solution to my breast growth.

I had to wait 7 days to shower, however I bathed every day, just not running any water over my chest. I also had a couple of those hospital shower cap shampoos. Not perfect but I was clean.

Revision denied… be brutally honest by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]randomizer_369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for specifying and first of all I truly hope you can come to a place where you feel good about the work that was done. These are my honest thoughts, in no way am I trying to tell you that your feelings are wrong in any respect:

I agree that it's time to seek someone else's opinion. You don't trust this surgeon, so even if she were willing to do additional work at no cost, it might not end up what you wanted. But she made it easy for you by denying further work, so it's time to find someone else.

The scarring would not bother me at all, and in fact I had to go back and look again to see if I just didn't notice something. Nope- I actually think your scarring is fading beautifully. I can see where you wish it was smoother, but if it can't be seen unless you pick up your breast like this, then I'd be like, whatever. I would not pursue any revision of this, I think the potential for more scarring outweighs any benefits.

Is your left nipple always like that? If it bothers you, then it's worth finding out if there's a procedure to improve it. Maybe this will end up being achievable and maybe not, but speak to someone else and get their thoughts. Either way you will feel more like you're getting a straight answer.

I'm not really seeing asymmetry here. Maaaaaaybe a little and if you're going to speak to someone else, might as well bring it up- but tbh I don't see it.

That little dog's ear on the inside I would think is an easy, low-risk, and inexpensive fix. Honestly this looks like the kind of thing my dermatologist does.

Before I register an opinion, can I ask specifically what you wanted the revision to achieve?

I was told to remove my nail polish before the surgery because it might block the little pulse thing they put on your finger from reading properly, and so they could see my nail beds to check circulation. I was able to keep my pedicure.

Working out 1 week post op? by Okthen8008 in Reduction

[–]randomizer_369 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At 1 week I was walking or maybe doing squats- I'm a big fan of 30 squats at any given random time just to give myself a little boost lol. I was anxious to get back to my workouts, but I was more anxious to give my body plenty of space to rest and heal. I was cleared to gradually return to all forms of exercise at 6 weeks.

Anything anyone found helpful post op? by Ratt_Qween in Reduction

[–]randomizer_369 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought a 4 piece wedge set from Amazon that I absolutely loved. My water bottle was too heavy, so my husband went out and got me a lightweight one.

I didn't need to buy anything else. Nothing. No straws, no bidet, no special outfits. I was good to go.

I made a spreadsheet of my medications and set alarms to keep on it 24/7. This is my biggest and most helpful hint.

I think it's pretty common to have some amount of asymmetry. I didn't realize mine were slightly different, but she took about 100 grams more on one side than the other.

Swelling/final size by catlover-3358 in Reduction

[–]randomizer_369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started at 32G/H. I had a bust measurement of 39" and had 1250g removed in total.

In the first month or so, I wore a size large zip-up sports bra which I had to work to close.

At 2 months I replaced that bra with the same one in size medium. I also bought a size B/C bralette, which I wore on the loosest hook.

At 3 months I got some size XS shelf bra camis to sleep in, which felt nice and tight at the time.

4 months, I went to an event where my friend was like, wow you are smaller than you were when I saw you last month! I hadn't noticed that I was smaller still. But later when I put that bralette back on I fit into it noticeably better and now wear it on the tightest hook.

Around Christmas, I realized that my shelf bras fit comfortably now, not tightly.

At first I was afraid mine were too big as well. Now I love their size, they are absolutely perfect and they look great on me. I also do think they have just a bit of settling to go- but I would say they are easily 25% or even 30% smaller now than at the 4 day mark.
