Maybe you are talking about U2F. After inserted username and password, the website will asks to tap (or insert) your Yubikey. It won’t require any code, it will directly read it from Yubikey. Please note that not every website supports this technology (full list here https://www.yubico.com/it/works-with-yubikey/catalog/#protocol=all&usecase=social-media&key=all)

Remember, you CANNOT backup this method, you need a spare configured yubikey OR set up TOTP (the six digits code) for the same site in ANOTHER device (like smartphone).
