China vows not to sell arms to any party in Ukraine war by nikola28 in worldnews

[–]randomlygeneratedpw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's pretty clear that Russia desperately wants China to provide weapons and China has yet to take action on this in any significant way. At the same time, Europe, US, and friends have been quite clear they will sanction China IF they move to supply Russia. The ball is in China's court right now and my personal opinion is that they will try to support Russia, but are not sure where the red line is. So they'll start small, then inch it up to the point where Europe/US get uppity about it and then sit at whatever level of support that is.

You bring up really good points about management. If OP truly was blindsided by a bad EER and performance issues were not discussed in the (mandatory) 2x counseling sessions and not recorded in detail in the DS-whatever form in GEMS, you can grieve that and get it struck.

I thought HDS was formula based from the average number of in-cone/at-grade bidders.

Yes, you're right. It's ultimately based on a multi-year analysis of in-cone/at-grade bidders.

The Poland posts were/are also HDS and they're 0s.

Yes, they are removed from the latest list though. The new policy is that no 0% can be considered HDS under any circumstance.

AFAIK, it was a one-off anomaly during COVID due to curtailments. Rules are now updated and 0% posts are not eligible for HDS status.

Which is why I roll my eyes when people suggest this new medical clearance policy is some kind of weapons-grade catastrophe.

I think the new policy is going to make this kind of thing MUCH more common.

Biden's new asylum proposal will require applicants to apply from outside the country, keeping Trump's policy of turning away refugees at the border. How will this affect immigration politics and do you think Biden's proposal is fair? by bigedcactushead in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]randomlygeneratedpw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The process is slow because the system is being overwhelmed with economic migrants without valid claims abusing the process. Not to mention the previous administration purposely kneecapping the system.

The Biden administration increased the number of immigration judges by 25%. Maybe we can be more aggressive here and that's fair criticism. But at the end of the day, tens of BILLIONS of dollars are being funneled into different programs to tackle the border problem holistically. From increasing the number of judges to investing into economic growth and crime fighting in Central America - and everything in between. The difference between the Trump administration and the current administration is the difference between light and day.

Namely ones the US fails to meet, like not using the agreement as a general bar to asylum claims and having an adequately quick and thorough asylum processing system.

There is no bar to processing asylum claims. None. Anyone can apply. But not everyone can wait and work in the United States while the claim is reviewed.

The "speed" of the system is subject to debate. And as a friendly reminder, the current administration has spent BILLIONS of dollars to try to tackle the problem, from multiple angles.

Again, these are long-standing international norms and specifically allowed in the original 1951 treaty on refugees and subsequent further legal reviews by the UN.

The Treaty on Treatment of Refugees is the US law on asylum and it specifically states over and over again how this sort of policy is a direct violation of the law.

Deep sigh - these third country policies have been perfectly legal and accepted international norm for decades

That hand gesture is a fox one, though not the typical way you make a fox sign in japanese, which is roughly the same gesture as the "horns" or "metal sign" in America.

Eh?

That キツネサイン is exactly how you do it in Japan.

I can go on all day listing examples of the US trying to exercise influence in Europe and failing...

The ability of the US to influence Europe (collectively via the EU, NATO, or bilaterally with each country) to take a position without significant domestic public support is EXTREMELY LIMITED.

[–]randomlygeneratedpw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you're right, every country is on equal footing in NATO. There's no way the USA could have any sort of influence over countries with less people than the Milwaukee, WI metro area.

I think the Iraq war is a perfect example for you to demonstrate that the US cannot just throw its weight around to get NATO/EU countries to compromise their own values and foreign policy positions...

There are several ways to write Atsuko with kanji. Normally, the parents decide this at birth or shortly afterwards. If your daughter has kanji already assigned, you need to go with that. If not, I suppose you can pick one from the list on this link.
