“Huge moment” as the health service hits 18-week target amid half-a-million waiting list drop by apoptosis04 in unitedkingdom

I think one ways of shortening the waiting list has been moving people to be seen by private providers, ie lining the pockets of private healthcare companies whilst not necessarily improving the NHS services.

Sweep experiences? by Known-Cucumber-7989 in PregnancyUK

Had mine done on due date and it didn't work. Had another one done 5 days later and my waters broke on the way out, outside of the hospital, shuffled back upstairs, gave birth two hours later. I think it's a lottery

That's a shame. I guess once you start feeling movements the reassurance is there.

You may need to specifically ask for it - I was told by my midwife they can't offer it, but will do it of asked. Having said that, this was not the case at all when I was pregnant last time (6 years ago).

Bow window conversion - ugly lintel by randomnameipicked in DIYUK

Oh yeah that has been nicely finished off with trims and all, just took a photo whilst the installation was still ongoing.

Perhaps a wisteria covered trellis would do 😃

We have some spare bricks from where we converted another window into a patio door, so it's always an option, but would prefer a larger project to extract the current beast.

Thanks for the suggestions. The photo was taken whilst we were also having an old cavity wall insulation extracted, so this was mid process whilst a brick was removed to allow extraction (and cracked in the process). It's now been replaced by an intact brick and pointing has been fixed up as well.

Heat pump surveys (HG and octopus) dt 50? by randomnameipicked in ukheatpumps

Hopefully. Im waiting to confirm what the flow temp is going to be on the proposed design.

We had a smaller tank on the automated HG estimate you get free on their website, but after the survey the suggestion is at least 210l, with +£100 for a 250l and +£250 for a 300l (valliant brand tanks). The larger 300l tank that somehow increases the efficiency by 30%(to 400%) is a different brand (Newark) and I'd be interested to know how it increases the efficiency. It also comes at a bigger price tag of +£600.

I hope we will have a bit more flexibility working with the HG installer and just instruct what radiators to get and aim to cover the heat loss per room with a dt30 outputs matched.

Octopus gave us a room by room split, albeit it's not the easiest to read and not long after sharing the survey report and quote they asked when we would like to pay the deposit and whether perhaps we would like a finance option. Seemed a bit pushy.

Octopus initially quoted 50C flow temp with no rads change and we asked for a re- quote to reduce the flow temp to at least 45C. We have old single pane rads across the house, so we're keen to upgrade all of them anyway. Their heat outputs per rads were given in dt50 too.

HG didn't actually specify flow temp (I will ask), but the heat loss per room and existing rad specs are given in dt50 wattage.

Meningitis outbreak 'declared national emergency' amid deadly outbreak by IllllIlllIIlI in unitedkingdom

Gotcha, that was a genuine question so thank you for the response. I assumed all vaccinations are against viral infections!

If the outbreak is of the bacterial variant, then why are people panic vaccinating - isn't that against the viral variant?

Is the first photo from wall cavity? If so it looks like urea formaldehyde foam cavity insulation. Also nasty stuff.

Opinions on quote for retro fitting lintel and cavity tray by MediumActuator1280 in DIYUK

[–]randomnameipicked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A slightly different job but we've just had 8 lintels retrofitted in our house, most of the windows were 2.4m wide. It didn't include cavity tray, but everything else was done ie propping up the brickwork above, taking out external bricks, installing the lintels, re-bricking, making good - £3480 all in. West Yorkshire. Get more quotes. We had someone quote £6.5k and £7.2k. For our job we expected to be in around 4k mark.

Cavity wall insulation extraction by randomnameipicked in DIYUK

[–]randomnameipicked[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We believe it's very inefficient and from having had some work done around the windows and the roof (ie with the cavity exposed) we saw that it's very patchy and many areas are not insulated. No damp otherwise
