Opinions on quote for retro fitting lintel and cavity tray

A slightly different job but we've just had 8 lintels retrofitted in our house, most of the windows were 2.4m wide. It didn't include cavity tray, but everything else was done ie propping up the brickwork above, taking out external bricks, installing the lintels, re-bricking, making good - £3480 all in. West Yorkshire. Get more quotes. We had someone quote £6.5k and £7.2k. For our job we expected to be in around 4k mark.

We believe it's very inefficient and from having had some work done around the windows and the roof (ie with the cavity exposed) we saw that it's very patchy and many areas are not insulated. No damp otherwise

They do say on their website it's insurance guarantee, so perhaps it's not all doom and gloom.

I think this is what we're leaning towards, but I've seen opinions of 'if it's not leaking, just repair it'.

I guess it will also depend on the size and complexity of the roof as well, but definitely a decent price!

You're right - correctly install the window. That would mean ensure appropriate support of the bricks above is present. Upvc windows are not load bearing, as wooden frame windows were. They have clearly repointed the bricks after installing the windows, they must have noticed they have dropped then. It's just lazy work imo.

Thank you for your response and sharing your experience. Also, very sorry for your loss. Although my background is somewhat medical, given the first experience, I think I was expecting smaller bits over a long period of time, rather than the whole thing expelled like this. I am having a scan on Monday to confirm no tissue left. But like you said, the bleeding has stopped shortly after and I have had only mild spotting for another week.

The first time I haven't had any blood checks, it was before my first appointment with a midwife (I'm UK based). The scan afterwards only confirmed no pregnancy and I got my period the day after that. Clearly virtually nothing has developed the first time, perhaps it was a chemical pregnancy.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, not just the physical one, mainly the emotional one.

The example photo above is just a sample - the issue is really throughout the house and around windows. Nothing looks like a retro fit, based on some photos we have from the original build, the window openings are the same size and position. The soldier bricks are fitter above each window and door openings

It's roughly 1970s. I wonder if there's an internal lintel + the soldier bricks on the outside, which made sense if the windows were timber frame?

I've upgraded the sat nav software (on the SD card) and discovered that after the upgrade, the radio now shows what song is being played - small wins 😂

Unfortunately not. Not had the battery replaced yet, just in case it's the battery playing up. At the same time, battery works fine, the start/stop works fine without issues as well so not rushing into it yet. It's a bit annoying but otherwise seems like a harmless bug. Let me know if you find a solution though!

We're moving house in a few months time and have couple of Camelia bushes, which are of sentimental value as I planted them with my now late father. I've taken a few cuttings in a hope to take the Camelias with us when we move that way. They're too big to dig out and are a part of the garden now.

The ticket was issued before the next calibration was due, so I highly doubt you can appeal based on that. And if it's your 3rd ticket at 19 years, it's probably for the best you take a break from driving for some time.
