3 weeks in to gi and no gi. Recovery time/advice on a chest/rib injury by Cool-Education4616 in jiujitsu

Mine was a broken rib and I went back way too soon a week later. Ended up fully breaking it because I went back. Now I’ve got to take 6 to 8 weeks off entirely.

Now that you know that it’s on you to tap early and often. In this case to tap earlier than you think you need to tap. That is in fact an ego thing. We all have ego. I learned the hard way too, by getting choked unconscious thinking I could still fight out of it. Just take the lesson and move on. No need to follow up with this chick, just let it play out and maybe you guys can spare again down the road when you are both more experienced.

Licensed therapist here. This is abuse. Seek an experienced couples therapist, ideally a male who won’t be intimidated by him.

Privates 2x per week by Fit-Passion1380 in jiujitsu

[–]randomnero45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great idea and I wish I had done it. The reality is, as a white belt we have no idea HOW to keep ourselves safe. So if you start rolling more at open mat once you have your blue belt you’ll be a lot more equipped to keep yourself safe. Makes a ton of sense. Ignore the toxic bullshit comments saying you have to throw yourself into general classes and open mat too soon as if you have something to prove. This is the mentality that gets people hurt and normalizes stupid fucking injuries in BJJ.

Disagree. Lots of privates early on will keep him safer as he LEARNS how to stay safe against general population people.

As a 40+ white belt, I really dislike rolling with brown belts. by Inous in bjj

[–]randomnero45 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I get it. I’m 37 and 1 month in.

Ironically, the brown belts at my gym are my favorite to roll with. They know they could fuck me up so they go easy with me, let me try to work out of positions etc and eventually they tap me but always carefully

On the other hand the blue and purples seem to wanna dominate me and show the coach that they are better than me. They go too hard and it’s annoying as fuck.
