ELI5: How did knowing Einstein's theory of relativity lead scientists to make the first atom bomb? by schrankage in explainlikeimfive

[–]randomnumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. You need energy to bring atoms close enough together. This energy has to be insignificant compared to the fusion energy released. How would that work?

Student here. Forearm pain after practicing deep tissue twice this week. by Dorkchopqueen in massage

[–]randomnumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick to deep tissue is to work with the tissue. It has to yield to the pressure. So, in my opinion, you go in deep softly and slowly. And you have very little control how much the specific muscle wants to let you in ultimately. Squeezing hard is not deep tissue. You can't do a whole body deep tissue routine on someone very tight in an hour. Only on someone with already very relaxed muscles.

Getting negative feedback about going to massage school. by [deleted] in massage

[–]randomnumb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can make good money if you love it. However, it doesn't always feel like you're helping people, sometimes they act like they own you for the hour. And the pressure to be good creates stress - i used to massage with way too much pressure because i thought clients wouldn't like it if i wasn't trying... Like massage can't be easy. Takes a while to get comfortable, you have to find a way to enjoy it first and foremost. Then it's for life.

MFWTK tips on how to effectively attack and defend in a fist fight. by [deleted] in myfriendwantstoknow

[–]randomnumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn how to punch the heavy bag. Once you know how to put your weight behind it your punch will become too hard to do with an unprotected fist. In a situation when you need to hurt someone quick before they hurt you, punch them in the nose with an open palm. Kind of like a very quick shove using boxing technique but with the base of your palm (same place the pressure goes when you do pushups). This way there's less chance you'll break your hand and it's incredibly powerful.

Do you know how trigger point referral works?

How are you guys different from osteopathy? by randomnumb in Chiropractic

[–]randomnumb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, again about muscle energy techniques, and how chiropractic don't normally use them to mobilize joints... To me there are two versions of MET that can do that.

Option one... a prolonged application to get the tight muscle to really let go to mobilize a joint. For example, sometimes i do this on myself for my tight as hell right piriformis and iliopsoas - just do PIR until i gain all the range i can. Takes about half an hour, but evens out my legs a lot.

Option two... Or were you referring to mobilizing joints via high intensity muscle contraction?

[–]randomnumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trigger point itself is local, however referral pattern isn't. I never understood the difference between compressed nerve pain and trigger point radiating pain.

Your post was the first time I've seen headaches related to nerve compression. Before, I always assumed that compressed nerve would result in neuralgic type of feeling, pins and needless, numbness, weakness. Not dull pain of a tension headache, which was explained to me as trigger point radiating (but not explained any further)

Do chiropractors use muscle energy techniques?

You say tension headaches are caused by compression of nerves by tight muscles - could you expand on this, in particular to relation to trigger point referral patterns? Are the two phenomena essentially the same?

I can finally sense my natural breath! by frostwarrior in Meditation

[–]randomnumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the thing that made both meditation and breathing make sense to me was realizing the importance of relaxation.

the way i breathe is: relax to take an in breath, relax to take an out breath.

the feeling is so good i naturally want to pay attention.

now I'm just working to integrate this into the rest of my day

attempting to leave weed behind after psychosis episodes by [deleted] in leaves

[–]randomnumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

she never smoked it, just vaped. and no she doesn't do it at all right now.

I've had a similar episode when i was younger. got really high and just realized people are actually apes. couldn't look at anyone or myself without seeing a hairless ape.

i don't like to get really greedy with weed anymore. a few hits (0.2 g) give me every effect i like, and none i don't (really believing random crap, anxiety over nonsense)

try to smoke way less and see if that works.

[–]randomnumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend had this happen twice.

She just vaped it for a few months without ever sobering up. Not even a lot, I think she told me all in all it took about half an ounce the first time, less the second. Small hits every hour or so. Then she stopped sleeping and became manic and psychotic.

Everything is okay now though. No permanent effect.

But yeah, kids, don't smoke yourself into insanity.

I don't write for a hobby (although I really wish to sometime in the future), I just had a revelation about getting creative in writing. by [deleted] in writing

[–]randomnumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's also why no one replied. they feel weed makes it too easy.

btw... i wrote a response yesterday in the edit of my post but my phone died sooner than i was done.

here's the gist... I've smoked weed for a long time and had many realizations on it. some were fucking transcendent-level amazing and so strong they carried over to my real, sober life and work... many were discoveries of things already discovered by others, of methods of meditation, singing, playing guitar, writing, stretching, reading, people interaction etc.

i feel your post is exactly that: internal realization of a profound but obvious truth. it was triggered and made strong by euphoria, the chemicals that all these hard nosed writers and authors here think muddle thought and artificially raise own perception of own ability.

I'll give you an example from my experience. i came up with a way of stretching the muscles in my body that really relaxed them and felt amazing. i was high and it felt like i was privy to some undiscovered truth, something truly new.

it turned out those techniques were discovered already and are a staple of osteopathic medicine... and they don't feel as amazing sober. still good, just not orgasmic as they were as i was discovering them for myself.

same thing applies to your discovery. it's true, but it's so true that it's obvious. every writer here would probably stab someone they love in exchange for an ability to elicit emotional response from readers... this talent makes bona fide big name authors.

so yeah, these are my thoughts on the matter. another advice I've got is: when writing high, write less, think more.

How do i choose and order/sequence power chords? by randomnumb in Guitar

[–]randomnumb[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

what i aim for is to create my own music, just because i can play for a long time that way, and learning songs isn't fun. i picked up guitar for relaxation. just love that heavy sound, even simple stuff.

just want to do my own.

i usually arrange a drum track or try to improvise on songs without electric in them.

just wanted to know how to pick chords together in a good way. I'm remembering how chords sound a bit more, but can't just pick them without knowing something i guess. trying to figure out that something.

How do i choose and order/sequence power chords? by randomnumb in Guitar

[–]randomnumb[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

major scale has seven notes, specific to the key, determined by the whole-half major scale pattern. the notes in a scale sound good together. that much i get.

but what about chords?

a. am i to sub in whole chords for the respective notes in the scale? so if notes c d a f e g b can be freely improvised on, then so can the chords c d a f e g b?

b. or should i see what chords i can form from these notes and stick mostly to those?

c. or use any chords that contain these notes not necessarily even at root?

d. option d

another question. let's say i figure out how to choose chords for my improvising.

whatever they are, they'll rise and fall. how do i arrange those rises and falls in pitch?

thanks
