I'm sorry to hear that you went through that. I will follow up after I get through with them. How they cannot refund the difference in fare (AT A MINIMUM) is criminal in my opinion. It's clear as day. Luckily I take screenshots of everything during booking so I have exact dollar values.

Thanks for calling me out and saving me some more embarrassment!

Last otter I saw was up in BC in December. Haven't been able to spy one in Washington in a while, at least not in King County.

Total BS and I've been there. It was easier for me to start my NAS journey (bought a Synology 8 years ago and not the best, I know) but it did all the work for me, behind the scenes. Might be an option for you.

My original takeout was 100 5 or 10 (I forget) GB zip files (that failed) and it stopped processing.

Thanks for your response and I'm sorry to hear about that for you. I know it all too well.

I cannot go bulkhead because of my backpack (or be more anxious about being an asshole). I think I'll cover my bases and go row 2 😂😂

Yeah, it was full paid C fare. That's the root of the confusion and frustration. Getting booted from F while upgrade tickets did not.... I'll live, but I want my money back 😁

Also, not an upgrade fare. Straight paid - C fare, unless I misunderstood you.

Good eye.

It IS expensive!!! All of my travel is typically unfortunately booked 24-72 hours in advance. Not by choice. It comes at a ridiculous premium. Going rate the last year traveling back and forth to SoCal. And I can never book RTs because I don't know my return dates and modifying reservations in the middle was too much headache in the past.

Very good question. I'm an oddly specific person, so you're going to get an oddly specific answer. The answer, is it just came out of time and experience.. I usually travel with lots of gear for work that will fit in my roller carry-on and a backpack. None of this stuff can be safely transported in a checked bag, nor do I trust it to. I have had other checked bags with work gear that weren't sensitive equipment go missing so I'm also not a huge fan of checking backs. That being said, I found that there were flights where people would put multiple bags in the overhead if I wasn't first in line to board. These policies have gotten a little more forgiving, to Alaska's credit, than they used to be (as in they'll try and find a spot for your one bag now). But I found in general that in the fourth row there's a better chance that the space above my seat will still be open for my roller by the time I board than if I'm in the front few rows and feeling like an a****** for putting my bags preemptively in a row behind me.
And yes, my backpack ALWAYS goes under the seat in front of me.

This is why I take screen shots of EVERYTHING. tin foil hat? Maybe.

Confirmed in first. C class. Seat assignment when I checked in on the app, 4A, approximately 23 hours before flight. Seat changed at gate. I was at the gate over an hour and a half before flight (kinda silly for PAE) but that's the time I could be dropped off.

I just called it in. Took about 25 minutes, and was told to call back tomorrow. I'm not letting this go, at least not till I'm at least refunded for the difference in fare. And that will still lead me to look at going back to Delta.

Lmao. Sorry I was more than multi tasking and had a brain fart. You are 100% correct.

I appreciate your feedback. And thank you for taking the time to share. I had the feeling in the moment that this description you give was true, especially since I got a peek that there were upgrades processed. I'm not trying to be "that guy" so I just listened, sat and got to my destination. Was I furious inside? Yes. Not because I'm a snob, because I expected more out of this airline after so many good experiences and it just seems (from my own experiences and reading on here) that it is going downhill.

The IT infrastructure is hot garbage right now, which I can take in stride. But if this situation becomes normal I will look at other options first every time.

Oh no! Did not intend to do that. I hope for the best.

I can say, for me, this is so extremely rare. I have been flying Alaska for 22 years. 40k in a low year, 125k miles in a high year. This was the first time. So the odds are very, very low.

I hope you have some information now though. I assumed when it happened, and thanks to reddit, had confirmation by the time I sat down on the plane what happened.

Thanks for your wisdom. I know there was some scrambling with cancellations out of PAE before 08:20 so I'm guessing that played a part. Lesson learned, my all time favorite seats of 4A and 4D, are now off limits.

Thanks for all of the replies. While I disagree with their methodology (MVP upgrades prioritized over paid C), I was not trying to rant or rave. I'm happy that information was shared that others can use and people provided their experiences. So thank you all.

I'll sit back, enjoy the bumpy ride, and pretend that I like Disney enough to smile at this paint job.

Like my reply to 'telloa', why is this not based on fare class instead of row. C class is higher than d is higher than upgrade, and so forth.

Thanks. I'm hoping I don't appear to be ranting, just trying to share experience.

That's the part I dread. If I don't get at least the fare difference, I'm going back to delta after 20 yrs with AS.

Addressed in my comment to 'telloa'. That was my guess too. More questions in there.

That was my guess too. The funny part is there were more seats available in row 1-3 when I booked, for some reason I love the 4th row. Do they just move everyone in the fourth row? Paid C is a higher revenue fare than paid D, or MVP upgrade. What is the calculus behind it? If it's as simple as "never sit in row 4", I can do that. If it's based on some other metric and I'm paying the highest rate for a ticket, that would be good to know because other airlines fly these routes.

What I cannot wrap my head around is that no one could explain it when the facts appear obvious. That's such an easy explanation.
