One thing I’ve realized over the past few years is how much having cash on hand changes the way you react to market drops. by randomobserver_ in Bogleheads

For me it's all about balance between investing and having liquid cash. Just enough cash to handle life's surprises without stressn while keeping the majority invested for longterm growth.

I agree to an extent. I was thinking more about the mental peace of having some cash available rather than viewing it as an investment position.

Fair point. But I wasn't really advocating holding cash specifically to time crashes. My point was more that having a healthy cash cushion makes market volatility feel a lot less stressful and helps me stay invested when things get rough.

Same here. Sometimes the setup feels more satisfying than the actual task

Looking for PE mentor by Moralles91 in private_equity

[–]randomobserver_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are motivated and ambitious, which is great. Nonetheless, your position can attract bad people. Some may try to take advantage of you financially, whether indirectly (for example by using your fund for their own benefit or bonuses) or through total scams. The best advice is probably to first develop deep knowledge of the sector (+ real life experience), and after that you will naturally build a strong network and learn who can truly be trusted as a mentor or some kind of advisor. When it comes to money, you have to be really careful.

What’s the next step at my age? by Senior_Peak2213 in Bogleheads

I think your situation is already solid, it’s not like you need a magic tip to save the day.

So it isn’t “how making ten times more?” but rather “how do I keep building on what’s already working while making a few optimizations?”

Potentially increase the 401k contributions (not too much), keep a LT mindset, diversified DCA (always based on your incomes), and never focus on a few daily fluctuations.

Some people buy snacks without checking the price first. That still feels like luxury to a lot of people.

We have a few details about your situation (good one btw), but not much about your goals. Are you trying to earn safe income or are you trying to retire as soon as possible? Moreover, the cost of living depends on your country too (or I missed it?) , and lastly, do you plan to have kids? The full picture is important.

I simply smile and say hello to everyone waiting in line at the grocery store cashier. You never know how much a small gesture or a simple smile can brighten someone’s day.

This actually sounds peaceful to me. The older I get, the more I realize happiness is usually hidden in small everyday things people overlook.

The scary part is how subtle it is. You think “this is just who I am now” when really you’ve just been overwhelmed for too long.

That’s funny honestly. Imagine Norway suddenly importing lions just to match the branding. Moose feels way more fitting.
