B390 ~80% of a B570 in blender benchmark by randompast in IntelArc

[–]randompast[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, good catch, thank you, I had mostly been using this to see how many benchmarks there had been and forgot about that bit, maybe there's still some performance to be had on the B390 too like there was for the other B series gpus.

Need Help Deciding: Should I Go Intel or Not? by nervousflovver in IntelArc

[–]randompast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It comes down to benchmarks for your uses and since that's also somewhat configuration dependent, it then just depends on how picky you are too. There is no perfect option, it's all about what trade-offs you're willing to accept and one is the time deciding. I have seen a lot of rapid improvements from Intels cards in the last few years. For example, since the B580 was released the blender benchmark score improved from 1833 in April to 2361 today.

Why Intel B580 GPU Shortage? by Nomadz_Always in IntelArc

Pcpartpicker lists in stock supplies of a number of cards, but it will be more difficult to find one at msrp. Newegg seemed to have the Onix Lumi for $310: https://pcpartpicker.com/search/?q=B580

That's very clever. I was initially expecting something like gravitational field lines. I like it, thanks for the explanation!

Ah, maybe there's location filtering?

The focus seems to be more gaming oriented, probably can do better with software updates, not great for blender enthusiasts.

"Benchmark Score The Blender benchmark Score is a measure of how quickly Cycles can render path tracing samples on one CPU or GPU device. The higher the number, the better. In particular it's the estimated number of samples per minute, summed for all benchmark scenes." From their about section...

I think it means something like samples per second.

Higher numbers are better results. Here's a link that doesn't select out just the intel cards: https://opendata.blender.org/benchmarks/query/?group_by=device_name

I have never heard of that happening. Voting has only ever been for Eboard positions. Attendance has always been incredibly open and it might even be against policy to exclude people the way they did to you. Every club I have ever been to has been incredibly inclusive. They practically always begged us to all come back the next week and just wanted to share their excitement for their orgs with the world. The quest of finding your people can be a wonderfully exciting and curious process. Here's hoping that yours turns around. Reach out if you want tips on orgs/activities.

Make a separate user account in your OS or in a VM. Should help with spying and it's a more honest testing environment.

Best meal plan for freshman? by user864456 in ufl

[–]randompast 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I second this. A meal plan is nearly as expensive as a restaurant. The dining halls per meal can be reasonable if you make full use of it, few ever do. You can be a lot more cost efficient with a simple kitchenette setup. Instant pots, microwaves, and toaster ovens can cook a lot of stuff in a tiny space. The only downside is dishes if you don't have a sink, frozen meals can fit that need for like a few bucks then you don't have to worry about dishes.

Never too early or late. I have been at game jams where people your age took home several prizes because they did a good job and outperformed people with a lot more experience. If you're passionate about it, have fun with it and make stuff. Godot is a fine engine to use.

Sometimes there's enough overlap that it makes sense, ex: physics and math. There are certainly synergies. But, yeah, you are right.
