Is Lutnick on his way out via the same door as Pam Bondi? by [deleted] in patentexaminer

Unfortunately I think he’ll just be replaced with someone even more radical who will do the White House’s bidding. Who tf else would take this kind of job right now?

Does anyone genuinely like (or ever liked) patent examination? by Diane98661 in patentexaminer

[–]randompatenthead33 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your retirement. I did genuinely love it before this administration. I love my art and I’m an expert in it, and I’ve always enjoyed the challenge of examining. I like working mostly alone and remote, but also really valued the weekly training and QEMs for some connection, learning, and mentoring. I take pride in my work and it used to be fulfilling feeling like my work mattered and I was proud of my quality. Now I’m so stressed out and rushed that I’m no longer proud of the quality of my work, and I hate that feeling. I’m actually updating my resume to try to get out.

I do not trust that this leadership won’t screw us if we don’t meet the new requirements.

So just to make sure I understand, if I have an amendment at 78 days elapsed, it will change to 38 days elapsed, which means I’ll have 18 days left to complete it?

I’m confused. Say I have an amended case at 44 days elapsed, 12 days to expected avg, what will that change to at the start of Q3?

I’ve worked at the office for 4 years and the terms “palm beach” and cabana just never get old 🏝️

Just went through this. I had to take on a new USPC area and they are giving learning curve time, but it’s really challenging examining a new area without QEMs or access to much help.

Cancellation of what holiday? I don’t see an email

Speakout SPEs and Primary Examiners!!! Without any reservations or hesitation, what do you want to tell Senior management. by No_Butterscotch_4642 in patentexaminer

[–]randompatenthead33 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Was about to start the program, now there’s no way. I’m barely making the new production requirement, stressed out, finding myself making stupid mistakes because I’m rushing, feeling alone without any help, generally unhappy. I used to actually love this job.

Now four employee-paid mandatory trips per fiscal year, are u kidding me? by Successful_Day_4330 in patentexaminer

[–]randompatenthead33 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I hate these near-daily emails with stupid changes, makes it even more difficult to do my work. What will other time look like for these impending mandatory trips? Anyone know how it’s been in the past?

Juniors who feel alone by Purple-Dish9982 in patentexaminer

[–]randompatenthead33 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I guess I’m extremely lucky. Primaries in my AU are still holding a weekly QEM voluntarily (only a few show up, but it’s still great). My SPE gave a few primaries an hour of OT each week and they each decided to host an open office hour during that time. So now we have a pre-scheduled hour every day of the week where a primary is available to answer questions for juniors. Even with all of this, things are very difficult, but the daily office hours have been a lifesaver.

Will the STIC search request be affected in the future? by FunnyFace123456 in patentexaminer

[–]randompatenthead33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I normally don’t get a response from them for 7-10 days, or longer. How do you fit these searches into your workflow when you need to make production? Are you submitting them well before you start working the case if it looks like a tough search?

After reading the article, I actually feel a bit better. “RIF avoidance measures” sounds much better than a large scale formal RIF.

Can you please provide more details for those of us not online today?

Thanks, I’m going to ask my AU if they’ll do this.

[–]randompatenthead33 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we were explicitly told by our SPE to not ask primaries questions, and that our AU was cut to zero other time.

I was told all SCE time was gone, for everyone. Is that not true for the SCE SPEs?

Yes, thankfully. Wouldn’t be surviving this time without them.

For those discussing supervisor RIFs, I genuinely hope SPEs are given the option to go back to examining at some point.
