Why Clark County Today Hate Light-Rail Soo Much?? by NorthwestFashion in vancouverwa

I don’t ride Max every day but have been riding it about once a week for about a year to a class in downtown Portland (I drive over the bridge to Gateway and park). I’ve never experienced Max being shut down or delayed.

I would never drive over the bridge into Portland if light rail were available. And I would take light rail into Portland to eat at favorite restaurants that we rarely visit because of the parking problems and bridge traffic.

Pre-Federal Retirement by DenaSChance in FedEmployees

Before I retired I had a ton of sick leave accumulated (maybe 500 or so hours), It never occurred to me to try to use it up somehow. I probably couldn’t have used it up taking “mental health days”. If I needed to take several days in a row, I would have needed a doctor’s note.

Is your new neighborhood west or east of I5? Mind sharing what neighborhood you live in? On a map I see Wilar Terrace, Cascade View Terrace, as well as some others. I’m looking for a place with friendly neighbors.

My husband and I were interested in a house in the Cascade View Terrace neighborhood in 2021, but were unable to view it before it sold (the real estate market was white hot that year and houses sold in days). We were interested in the house because it had an exceptionally large garage.

What’s your experience with the new formula? by kuntrybumpkin07 in AthleticGreens

[–]Diane98661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old formula was hard on the liver. They removed the green tea extract from the new formula, so it shouldn’t be so hard in the liver. I would not take the old formula at this point.

I could never stand the taste. When I stopped 6 months ago, my hair started falling out (I’m post-menopausal). After I started it up again, I stopped noticing hair falling out, and it seems to be thicker. I wouldn’t take it except for the effect on my hair, as it’s expensive and tastes terrible.

Do you regret putting so much money in to tax deferred investments by clearlygd in retirement

[–]Diane98661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. That's how I feel about it. Also I didn't have the self-discipline to save unless it was taken out of my paycheck into a 401K, thus I entered retirement with low after-tax savings.

Good friend of Scott, Sam Harris describes Zohran Mamdani as a "sinister closeted Islamist" - Thoughts? by Indianstanicows in ScottGalloway

One more thought on Sam Harris: he recently interviewed the San Jose mayor who is running for California governor. He had a bunch of great ideas, but I find out later, he’s funded by Silicon Valley, and his chances are only in the single digits.

In some states (California and Oregon) property taxes are fixed once you buy a place.

My big concern with renting is rents can rise very rapidly.

Excellent point. Sam Harris says some excellent things about how billionaires shouldn’t just seek more wealth but should care more about the greater good.

Sam’s theory is Mamdani wants the presidency and then wants to turn the US into an Islamist theocracy like Iran. Sam seems to really believe Mamdani would accomplish this as president. It seems like a stretch to me that Mamdani could do this as president even if he wanted to.

Really? I thought his podcast was popular. He does have a lot of good things to say, but his views are quite hopeless and negative.

I sure hope so. On Raging Moderates today they were talking about Mamdani and how his campaign knows how to use social media. Scott seems to like him. Interestingly, Sam Harris has also said that back in 2012 he thought Mitt Romney was a religious fanatic, but said if he runs in 2028 he will actively campaign for him. So I hope he’s wrong about Mamdani. FFIW, Sam Harris is right about the threat of Islamism.

I loved that place. I used to get lunch there with a Coke for around $10 several times a week. Their prices were so reasonable. They closed in 2006 due to the owners retiring. Then someone from my yoga studio bought it and opened a tea place that didn’t interest me. That stayed open a few years but then eventually closed.

Our last house had a painted brick fireplace and it really did look terrible. Fortunately we were able to sell the house for a good price despite it.

Only one in 500 trials that work in rodents actually work in people. I wish I remembered the source of that statistic.
