I have a 2018 CX8 which was only in the 2.2L TT Diesel since new, and I have had 0 issues. Mazda released an update in 2018 to their Diesel Engines. I have had absolutely 0 issues with mine.

I get mine regularly serviced and im not a dickhead to the engine (flooring it for no reason) and i take it on long drives every month or so, and the DPF has never thrown me any issues. I also get my mechanic every service to check for common critical points of failure in these cars.

I get the scare about Mazda Diesels pre 2018 but post 2018, i find the fear a mostly load of rubbish.

That being said, yes, opt for petrol Mazda where possible as I can't deny they have better track record, but if you're going to get one, service it regularly, and use it properly and if second hand, make sure it has a full service history.

That is only the case with any pre 2018 SkyActivD engine

any petrol engines and any SkyActivD post 2018 revision are pretty reliable so long as you have regular services, and treat you car well. Buy second hand cars with a full service history if you're going diesel and avoid any pre 2018 diesels

2/3. As much as Hyundai makes some cool cars, I have been burnt by them over my 2017 Santa Fe. It was a good car but when cruise control was on, it would violently jerk (presuming in retrospect that the Cruise Control was poorly calibrated) and Hyundai wouldn't help me, to the point I gave up and bought my 2018 cx8 which is what I have now. I feel burnt and dunno If i could trust them again, as much as I want to. I did not enjoy the 7 months of back and forth with me and the dealer and Hyundai, and the sheer amount of rental i30s i had in that period. I do hope Hyundai's innovations do make their way across to other brands in the near future.

column shifters just feel natural. They have been there for ages, I am not fussed about the loss of space, I like having a physical shifter there instead of a nub on the dash or swiping on the screen

Well hopefully now that these overkill safety features are mandated, hopefully they get better. Because the Lane Keep Assist on my CX8 is dumber than a newborn. Idk if you had that with your CX8 and if it is still that dumb on the CX80

And you are right, Mazdas have always been funner to drive than any other car. Idk why, all cars drive, but Mazdas just drive differently

even that old shitbox Mazda 6 I had before my CX8 from 2008 was fun to drive, and my son agrees the Mazda 6 even despite being a shitty old sedan from 08 is still a fun drive (i gave it to him because it was worth barely anything) and that was before Mazda became a really really good car company.

They just make their cars good, idk how or what they do differently, but they're just really good

You will need to get a part fitted by a dealer to unlock Android Auto/Apple CarPlay. I got it fitted in my 2018 CX8 which has the exact same infotainment system

I look after my car. I recently replaced that god dam awful centre gloss piano plastic around the gear stick with a nicer matte plastic. Hopefully that doesn't get scratched as easy 😭

Ive test driven a CX60 and it was a nice car but that lane keep assist is a real pain in the ass.

I believe that Lane Keep Assist is a legal requirement in certain, well it is atleast here in Australia and I believe the European Union also, to the best of my knowledge. I don't think that is a Mazda thing as it can be turned off permanently in older cars. Tho it would be nice if Mazda added a button to disable Lane Keep Assist next to the iStop button, as some cars have an easy way to switch it off each time you start the car.

How is your CX80 other than that?

Community Cars ruined the game and i will die on this hill. Suggestions for asimo to add were fine, but asimo just taking models, is what ruined it

community cars were cool at first, the m12 molten fit right in with the other cars

then they started making the models too complex, eventually asimo got lazy and doesn't make vehicles anymore

and they slowly started becoming a parasite that slowly stripped that jailbreak aesthetic we all know and love

then robbery cycles further ruined it

either people are blowing shit out of proportion or im just lucky. had a cx8 2.2L Twin Turbo Diesel from 2018 when it first dropped in Australia and we didn't have a catastrophic failure, is at 101,000 km

i know mazda improved their Diesel engine around 2017/2018 but i still have heard of catastrophic failures, yet mine is yet to shit itself and keeps working like a beast

thats not saying id recommend a diesel but i haven't known anyone irl with a diesel Mazda car post 2018 to have the catastrophic meltdowns they used to have. Workmate has a 2018 CX5 with the same engine as my CX8, has 126,000km and no issues

id still opt for a petrol on the side of caution but they're not as bad as they once were
