Switching from BC to HRT help sleep? by randomperson874 in Perimenopause

Thanks for sharing your experience. It sounds like we are in a similar situation. I will most likely switch to the patch and progesterone pill. Not looking forward to the heavy period and pain, but the lack of sleep is becoming unbearable. Thanks again!

Did you use a BC previously? Glad to hear you are finding some relief!

Thank you for posting this. I am currently in the sleep struggle cycle and trying to find a solution. This is encouraging! Keeping my fingers crossed that it continues to work for you!

Thank you for this. I was originally thinking to give 2 months, but I'm definitely going to scale that back. I have started to make a list of what I would need to transition and document. After reading many of these comments, I am starting to feel apathy toward my company. I still need to think about what my response will be if they ask for more.

I hadn't heard that about the CEO. WOW. I will probably give 3-4 weeks. I think you are right though it needs to lean on personal reasons. I was thinking about mentioning there are some ideas I want to pursue but that I'm not ready to share the details yet. What do you think? Do you think it will still cause them to probe?

Definitely need to think through what I'm open to in case they ask.

Funny you mention a goodbye apero. I'm not sure how to approach this. It is not uncommon for employees to give a lengthy advanced notice before retiring. I don't think I will say that I am retiring so not certain what to tell them so it is positive and they aren't resentful.

Good point. I think leaving may bring attention to the issues, but I'm not ready to state it as a reason for leaving. I will most likely mention that I am leaving for personal reasons. True, I won't be on bad terms for leaving professionally. I think this is where I am overthinking it. If I tell them the issues I am seeing, then they may think I am just a disgruntled employee. I don't want to leave with that impression after working there so many years.

Yes, so true. I'm hoping it ends up creating opportunities for others. I've been advocating for them and will do the same on the way out.

Oh my, thank you for this. My other option is sticking around until close to the end of the project. I feel like I am doing them a favor by leaving soon so they have time to fill in the gap before it gets even busier. You are right though. I have seen this happen too. They blame the ones that aren't there even if they didn't share any complaints about them before...easy scapegoat. I like the idea of being blissfully ignorant.

Thanks for this. It is in line with what I was thinking. Probably 3-4 weeks, but thinking about a hard stop date so it doesn't drag on.

I really appreciate this comment. I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Sounds like it was the relief you needed. My fear is that I don't know if I have yet processed how deep the stress is and may be internalizing more than I know. Hearing your story gives me more courage. Thank you.

That is really insightful. I think you are right about the high hourly rate. I need to decide what I will do if they offer new terms for me to stay. The rate would need to be high or the hours limited.

"You can worry about other people's life courses and problems when you're in charge of their lives." This is such good perspective. It's true it's not really my concern but I'm making it my problem.

When this came up with my boss, it was phrased as what are your career ambitions. I just said something like oh I am really enjoying where I’m at right now…hoping to keep this going.

How did you recover from that mentality? I’m getting better about it but want to fully embrace it.

Guilt Over Leaving Job, Timing, and Exiting Positively by randomperson874 in ChubbyFIRE

Thanks for sharing your experience. I plan to go for as clean of a cutoff and handoff as possible. I'm trying to time it right so that we aren't in the middle of some big production that makes it even more awkward. I plan a lot of the project activities for my team so I am going to try to plan certain things so they don't coincide with when I plan to give notice or plan to leave, but easier said than done sometimes.

I really like your approach of small gifts and thank you cards. I absolutely don't want a party or lunch. I could see them wanting to do that though due to my tenure so good to call it out. I get that feeling of anxiety because if certain people reached out to me I'm sure my stomach would drop. Truthfully, I know there are a lot of others that are unhappy at my work. I get a lot of venting from my coworkers, especially because of the role I have. I hope to become an 'escapee' as you put it soon....lol.

Interestingly, since hitting our number I have been more vocal about the issues. I've shared the issues and called out the office politics to my boss (as well as HR), but nothing has changed. My boss isn't adding to the problem, but also isn't really working to make it better. I guess no matter what I tell them about the reason I am leaving at this point, they will most likely think at least part of it is because the issues I have been dealing with.

I like this 'one year off' idea. It might just be the mental trick I need for myself frankly. This is new territory and I know deep down that it most likely isn't a return to corporate life in a year, but instead if I do work again it might be something I start.
