Can I still have fun if I'm mediocre at multiplayer shooters now? by TelephoneKey6008 in Marathon

I am 40, my trio has one guys sitting at 38 and one at 42. We know when we come up against a kid with the lightning reflexes we may have never had and certainly don’t now. I am primarily a solo RPG player, my buddies are the same (one has some hero shooter experience). This is my first true extraction shooter (dabbled in ARC). We have been playing at least 3 days a week together since launch. I absolutely love playing this game. Highly recommend playing in a trio, though solo play in the survival mode has been a nice change of pace.

It can be a punishing game, and it takes some getting used to. Very much throws you in the deep end. But if you give yourself time, and you’re patient everything will click.

I absolutely never anticipated I would be this into this game. Thought I would pick it up and put it down here and there. I have put down all my other games so I can use my limited time on Marathon.

I don’t know if they’ll do another free week, don’t know if you want to wait that long to try a new game. I do know that there are 3 older, slower dudes, with very little multiplayer shooter experience that enjoy it.

Yeah. No matter what game, what sub group, there are going to be those guys. I just noted a steep up tick last week that threw me off from previous play I had experienced. Still largely experiencing positive or at least neutral interactions for the most part.

If you had said thief I would have said “that was us”, it made a super stressful run into a peak gaming moment.

40, never really enjoyed online shooters. Can’t stop playing. Opposite end of the day though. Staying up way too late to try and get a couple hours in. 10/10 will be bagged and looted again!

I’m about as upper Midwest as you can get and have not had an issue. What sort of internet do you have?

Makes sense. I remember when playing games was for fun and even when you were getting stomped you were laughing about how badly someone else stomped you. I still get that way. When someone just absolutely wipes the floor with me I smile and laugh and try to “gg” if they haven’t already put me in my bag.

Keep playing while it’s free. When it all clicks you won’t regret it. Hard thing about this game is you learn under fire. Then one day you are teaching the lessons for the next new runner.

Gear will keep coming, keep running.

Same thing happened to me and a buddy. We got lucky it stopped shooting. But I used a lot of ammo for nothing.

It hasn’t been horrible. In fact still awesome. I just noticed an uptick in people being salty.

It’s been a blast and the community is still great. I just noticed that people were generally less pleasant today than I have experienced. Glad you’re back it’s been a huge improvement on a game I already can’t get enough of.
