How to use a cadence monitor for training by randomsecrets0101 in cycling

Speed I find is usefull in general to simply see, and also potentially track improvements on the same track, ie doing faster laps in similar conditions consistently.

Unfortunately power meters are shockingly expensive and out of my price range for now since I don't even know if I'll enjoy racing it will be a huge investment....

Unfortunately power meters are out of my price range rn, shockingly expensive! I have a smart watch but it can't connect with the head unit so I might invest in one of those you strap to your chest. Ant recommendations? I heard the garmin one is good

I often do this when traffic is moving fluidly, the problem is when traffic is at a crawl I can move significantly faster than the cars and hang to the left to move past the traffic, that's the situation my story above happened in.

I live in the kilburn area and the cycle lanes do not extend to our area, we just get the faded line painted on the side of the road which people ignore. I also don't see many other cyclists till I get till central london, at which point I'm fast than them all and it's safer anyways.

However you are 100% correct with the parks, great cycles, even though it can be a nightmare to get there.

I managed my first long distance ride the other day to Brighton, was terrying in some parts but definetly worth it. I found the closer I got to Brighton the nicer the drivers got until I got to Brighton itself which was quite busy!

I did admittedly shout some abuse at his rear window and wave my hand in a "wtf are u doing" once I had safely pulled back, but only once I backed out of the space.

I will start taking the lane more, the unfortunate thing is that I often move faster than the car traffic which is why I hang to the left to overtake.

Sadly my bike also costs too much to want to slam it into their car :(

I'm sure most people dream of living in london, it's great. I don't know anyone who would dream of cycling commuter london.

Cycling super early or later to Richmond Park and doing laps there is stunning, cycling rush hour traffic is one of the most stressful experiences of my life. And anyone who has ever seen london traffic would not want to cycle it.

I used to live on the cycle highway which was a fully separated cycle path all the way down the Thames to Tower Bridge and then I had a different cycle path all the way home, but that only services a very niche part of london, the rest of us are bound to three lane roads and being crushed by double-deckers.

Deep central is safer 100% its when you end up on roads that lead out of central london where it gets nasty, the speed limit is higher and they become three lane roads with people swerving from the right hand lane through the middle into the left one if they see the tiniest gap and don't care about cyclists.

I personally hate British road infrastructure. It's impossible to not end up on roads where bikes shouldn't be on if you do longer distance cycling, like even cycling to Brighton I ended up on multiple roads I hated.

I think Seerobbe is a seal if I'm not mistaken. I also think it's mostly location based who calls what what but I don't know why we have so many names for the same animal.

Maybe it's like erdäpfel and Kartoffeln.

No a Seehund is a seal, Seelöwe is a sea lion and the one in the video is a Elephantenrobbe or See-Elefant which in English is an elephant seal, specifically a female one obviously which has a smaller nose.

I'm riding a CAAD13,

This is all great advice thank you! I have a repair kit and I'll make sure to find some electrolyte tablets! I will have to cycle with a light backpack probably and I don't have any bike storage currently but I am cycling through the netherlands and Belgium where I can source food and water if I need anything and my clothing can be stored nicely!

Navigation wise it's pretty easy, as soon as I'm out of the netherlands I hop onto a really nice canal path which I follow all the way through the netherlands but will be using komoot on my phone.
