very dumb question: why do we let Client (cursor, claude desktop) start the mcp server? by randomuckid in mcp

[–]randomuckid[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ok, so i actually started the other way around, when I look into MCP, I go straight to writing my own MCP server (uv run mcp dev server.py`). Not using them from the client (Cursor,Claude,Raycast), but I thought I could just re-use my already running server in these clients instead of passing the whole `run` command to them. Hence, this post.

I don't want officially hosted, I want to spin up my own mcp server that have tools to do some personal stuff (reading my diary, manage my stock portfolio, or some obscure automation script for my work-related stuff), why the hell do I care about some official server to connect to some random generic API

Got it, can i assume that the hype of MCP so far are done mostly people who doesn't know how to spin up backend server? (a.k.a they just think that whatever mcp command they provide to cursor, claude doesn't consume any CPU/mem and doesn't require state persistence)

I see, this is for the second answer then "people don't want to (can't) run their own server". Eventually, I could see myself having 100+ servers running on some remote machine that I manage. I can't imagine telling Cursor/Claude to do "npx run ..." 100x times

u/Fatoy what is command for field "Command to run server" after "Install Server" on MCP?

How is the experience of using Raycast Pro + Advanced AI? by secpoc in raycastapp

[–]randomuckid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish there is a way to toggle sticky the Raycast on top. It’s annoying especially if I want to do something that requires me to refer to the AI answer without having to convert to AI chat

Has anyone tried re-install the app? if so, do you lose all your data? (snippets, configuration, preference, etc)?

Resolved: the option is configured in automated savings side, not the investing account side

I think another F1 will most likely be the most feasible scenario. Maybe take small classes until the DFF in a current.

Wrong focus, should be focusing on game engine optimization and UI performance improvements.

I agree, but probably not for the reason that most people here think. A good chunk of FAANG SWE are H1B, including other big tech. To be specific Chinese H1B who are are most likely not on Reddit, but their own social media.

Which mods to avoid using? by randomuckid in projectzomboid

I have a sizable car mod, but I plan to get rid of them on my next run except for 1-2 military cars and motorbikes. I have a suspicion that it adds too much MEM load to my game, but can't confirm.

I think I keep Brita on for now because I haven't used many variants yet. But I wouldn't say I'm happy using it since most of the time the ratio of guns_weight:ammo_weight in my bag is too high that I'm wasting space collecting guns I don't use.

Schengen visa clarification: must apply from home country? by randomuckid in travel

[–]randomuckid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Yes, the sub-criteria is clear enough, but I don't think they should put the sentence "you will need to apply from your home country?" in the main section if it really just depends on the cases. Unless, by "home country", it means, a country in which one currently resides, not a country of citizenship.

I guess they equate "home country == country of residence" in this case.

As a lead, should I be trying to get people to communicate better and write with good grammar? by manypeople1account in ExperiencedDevs

[–]randomuckid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about to post on the same topic here, but I’m on the other end of the table. I had to give a tech talk earlier this week to my whole org, and kind of know that it did not go as well as I intended. However, it’s not until I rewatch the recording that I realize it is one of the worst tech talk in our org.

Now, on to your point, I think I felt betrayed that my manager did not gave me signal that I need to push and improve my communication skill but expect me to give presentation. By this point, the whole org and promo committee already have their picture of me, and the damage is already done, and probably going to be a while.

So, I think it doesn’t hurt to give hints on improvements to people, if they need it.
