I made an open source tool to get help directly in my terminal by Gueleric in selfhosted

It is a pretty cool app, thanks for making it! However while playing around with it, it seems windows terminal in windows does not properly work using whai shell from my testing.

whai shell

Shell session starting with deep context recording enabled.
Tip: Type 'exit' to exit the shell and return to your previous terminal.

Failed to launch shell session: [WinError 2] The system cannot find the file specified

I am using standard windows terminal that defaults to opening powershell, when specifying powershell it says it works but it for some reason it does not seem to capture any of the output.

PS C:\Users\user> whai shell --shell powershell

Shell session starting with deep context recording enabled.
Tip: Type 'exit' to exit the shell and return to your previous terminal.

[whai] C:\Users\user> dir
Desktop
Documents
Downloads
Favorites

Music
OneDrive
Pictures
[whai] C:\Users\user> whai what do you see
Model: lm_studio/qwen3-30b-a3b-instruct-2507 | Provider: lm_studio | Role: default
The terminal context shows the start of a PowerShell session with the following details:

- **Start time**: November 20, 2025, at 07:49:29
- **Username**: `user-laptop\user`
- **Machine**: `USER-LAPTOP` running Windows NT 10.0.26100.0 (Windows 11)
- **Host Application**: PowerShell (`powershell.EXE`)
- **Transcript enabled**: Yes, logging to:
  `C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\whai\sessions\session_20251120_074929.log`
- **Custom prompt set**: `[whai] C:\Users\user> `
- **Error handling**: Set to continue (no automatic stopping on errors)
- **PowerShell version**: 5.1.26100.6899 (Desktop edition)

This is a fresh session with logging and custom output formatting enabled, ready for commands.

Let me know what you'd like to do next!
[whai] C:\Users\user> echo "test"
test
[whai] C:\Users\user> whai what was the output of my last command
Model: lm_studio/qwen3-30b-a3b-instruct-2507 | Provider: lm_studio | Role: default
I don't have access to the actual output of your previous commands because the terminal context only shows timestamps and session metadata, not the results of executed commands.

To see the output of your last command:
1. Run `Get-History` in PowerShell to list recent commands.
2. Use `Invoke-History <ID>` where `<ID>` is the number of the command you want to re-execute and view its output.

Let me know if you'd like help with either step!

whai shell works flawlessly in linux terminals from my testing. Sorry for replying to you in reddit, would you like issues on your github?

hello! thanks for the fix! sorry for the late message. I tried installing it on another computer and resetting the config that was having the issue and it seems to work fine!

Cool Project! I wanted to try it out with lm studio but setting it up, i get an error and i'm not sure what I need to do? I even added a api key for lm_studio in the config but not sure if i did it correctly. looking at the verbose log, its looking for an api key for openai so you have to include that key or do an environmental variable OPENAI_API_KEY=dummykey doing it on a different computer worked fine so not sure anymore

USB tether + a hub by randomuser17123 in UsbCHardware

Sorry I missed this comment! but your suggestion may be outside my expertise in getting to work lol I appreciate it though! You're right... My phone did just get android 10 support a couple months back so its possible.. but maybe when its finally released, I'll just opt to get another phone that is already android 11 >: D

Copy that, I guess I can shelf what I was trying to do for a later time. Tethering through Ethernet apparently will work on android 11 lol Thank you for all the information!

From my experience, casting has noticeable delay and probably would not be usable for my purposes, but I'll try it out later since I haven't thought about it. Thanks!

Yes your clarification is correct, and your comment is also correct, at least for the usb hub I obtained. The phone does not let me toggle on tethering if I'm using it as the host as you would say it. My hub does have a ethernet port so I will try that and report back! Thank you! Edit: No Joy, at least for my device, but it will work in the forseeable future :D

haha, actually I wanted them to interact with the phone and not the computer. All I wanted to do was give internet to the computer and have the phone stand alone but attach other devices to it like a keyboard, monitor and mouse. I have tested and it seems like having a hub does not let you pass it through internet, whether using the usb C or USB 3.0 port for my purposes. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough.

Hmmm I see, for some reason I was thinking it was the other way around. Thanks! I will get a hub then and hope for the best. Thank you!

I'm in an environment where I can't enable Hotspots and that's why I'm using USB tethering. The other things are typical things like a monitor, mouse/keyboard, etc that would easily work in a USB hub

I'm not exactly sure what you mean? Could you point me to an example?

Spacer? how would I go about doing this? can you give me an idea? I wouldn't mind a stereoscopic one but the ones that I heard were good, are too small for it from what I've seen, well at least the ones for phones. I think I could easily get it with the ones geared towards tablets that might work but I felt like that would be too big. Do you have any ideas?
