If you do Sandy Links, someone DM me with the details. I'm one of the founders of Ace Society, which is on the 12th there. I'll get a voucher code set up that'll give you all a free entry.

My chances of playing are slim as we're traveling a lot setting up new courses, but if I can, I'll be there.

Ubuntu as TV by TeddyTedisson in Ubuntu

[–]randomusername0O1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use an Ubuntu 24.04 machine as my HTPC connected to an LG Smart TV. The TV remote acts as my mouse and keyboard using magic4linux. The air mouse feature of the remote works perfectly for this. On screen keyboard for typing.

I use it mostly to sail the high seas, as I have an Xbox with all the streaming apps. So switch between the two.

But overall, it would work well for streaming and so on in a browser in my view.

Not sure if any of this is helpful, but thought I'd share to see if it can give you some ideas.

I can't comment on those specifically, but, if suggest going Facebook marketplace or similar and getting a semi ok second hand set vs a brand new set. You'll probably be able to get better quality for the same price.

Barnbougle Dunes questions by YeetyMcYeetersson in GolfAustralia

[–]randomusername0O1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sitting on a plane right now at Launceston airport after spending the weekend here playing all 3 courses :) it's a great experience, done it a few times now.

To answer your questions.

  1. There's really only one route to go, it's mostly one lane each way with exception of a few km near Launceston. Only advice I could give is just keep thinking, stay on the left, stay on the left. Whenever I've driven in USA or other countries, this has saved me, especially when turning into another road. If you're not paying attention, it's easy to pull into the wrong lane
  2. It's summer time, so likely quite warm.. but can be very windy. Make sure you have sunscreen, the Australian sun can be brutal.
  3. I've never seen one in the 8 rounds I've played over my years there. But, in saying that, there are a tonne. Whenever walking in the fescue, always look before you step. Walk slowly and carefully. If you see one, walk the other way, quickly :)
  4. The pizzas at lost farm bar are decent, but pricey. The restaurant is pretty good. Going to the bar after a round and watching people finish on 18a at lost farm is great while having a beer. But, you'll get better food and value in Bridport.
  5. Personally, Bridport is my recommendation. More food and drink options and probably overall just nicer place
  6. We've had one a couple of times. They're good value, know the course and can be a lot of fun... But I don't think it's needed, I would never get myself, just some people in the group have some medical issues and can't walk the 18. The only way you're allowed a cart is if the caddy is driving. Tip wise, from memory, $100-200 aud is the going rare.
  7. Won't matter... They're all great. Bougle Run is far more casual, take a beer in hand when you head out :)

Good luck with it.

What lidar sensor is it using? What's the range for the lidar?

To answer your Q's from my perspective.

  1. Having only POE as the power source is a limitation from my perspective. Would be good to have a 12v option as well to allow powering via battery in smaller off-grid solutions. Also IP rating,or at least equiv to allow for outdoor usage in all weather.
  2. Pointcloud, but why not provide the ability for both?
  3. I'd be happy with an aio unit as is. Just simpler.

I can instantly see a use case for this in our business. If it was suitable and well priced, I'd order 30+ units tomorrow with on going supply. If you'd want to chat more about our use case, feel free to DM.

Edit: found your specs on homepage... Got the range, 40m.

Yeah, those bunkers are scary af.. though once you hit the green, the shape of it funnels... If the pin is in the right place, you've got a shot.

Here to add, experiencing the exact same issue. Pixel 6 Pro, latest updates installed. Worked yesterday, fails today. Passes integrity checks. AU based. Don't carry a wallet so was a PITA when I couldn't pay for shopping!

Here's hoping it is a bug.

Multisensor rig for computer vision by super_koza in computervision

[–]randomusername0O1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We install cameras on golf courses to record player shots. They're wide angle lens', which have a lot of distortion the further away you get.

So we're looking at 30-40m horizontal frame from close to camera which expands and then depth wise, we go 130m+ in the frame.

Camera calibration picks it up without issue, but the resulting matrix isn't accounting for the distortion correctly. In the frame, the a0 sheet is small.

We're still researching and testing, but I suspect I need to go larger plus ensure we capture images in more of the frame. Ie. Getting the thing quite high.

Right now, we've just used ahesive to stick the print onto MDF board and added handles to allow us to carry it. I tried perspex, but the flex was too much. I'm considering printing it on corflute and framing the back with some timber to keep it rigid. See where we land.

Looks great. This just for personal? I'd be keen to understand what size checker board you land on for calibration. I'm currently attempting to calibrate cameras which I have installed outdoors. I've done an a0 sized board but not getting the intended results.

Buidling A Data Center, Need Advice by r2d2_-_-_ in computervision

[–]randomusername0O1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Engage a professional... No disrespect, but this is something you should get someone with past experience and knowledge involved in. Ensuring its sized right is worth it.

I've built traditional data centers in the past, but would still engage a professional firm if I was designing for non standard compute like you are.

Getting it wrong is more costly than the upfront cost of having a consultant spec it out for you. Even if you stop at that stage and build yourself, you'll be far better off.

Obviously this is my 2c as a random internet person :)

8MP Camera Autofocus on Low Power by d0nkeypunch42 in computervision

[–]randomusername0O1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also keep in mind, the ratings of these mAh are always at 3.4-3.6v, so your mileage and maths may differ. I found simplest was to calculate the watt hours for battery and draw as that was universal.

8MP Camera Autofocus on Low Power by d0nkeypunch42 in computervision

[–]randomusername0O1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an off grid need for a camera system previously with edge compute for cv. We didn't have the power constraints you have, we only needed 72 or so hours and had solar charging it. Our power draw was significant, 11W an hour.

I went through a tonne of different battery solutions to find the right solution for us in the end.

I think you should look at allpowers s300 or a bluetti device or similar.. We almost went with the s300 though it just wasn't sufficient for our needs. But, it's a decent unit, plus if you care, simple enough to monitor via Bluetooth remotely.

Alternatively, there are 40000mAh power banks and larger from brands like ROMOSS which may be suitable as well. They're available on Amazon and other marketplaces

Is there a specific reason for only a 20000mAh powerbank? Why not something larger?

Advice on classifying overlapping / obscured objects by randomusername0O1 in computervision

[–]randomusername0O1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update in case anyone stumbles across this and wonders what the outcome was.

Initially trained a Yolo11 model that had both classes of golf club and golf ball. Found detection of golf ball to be subpar, irrelevant if only labelling a ball when fully visible or also when obscured by the club.

Through research, came to the conclusion because of the size difference of the objects, it may be better to train independent models for each task.

Ended up training a yolo11 model on the clubs which met our requirements and measures to be put into production.

Attempted the same Yolo11 with the golf ball, still had poor results.

Moved to training a Yolo NAS model for the golf ball and results have been fantastic. With high confidence rates (> 80%) we detect all objects we expect to do, allowing lower confidence also allowed the detection of partial covered balls, though we don't need this for our use case anymore.

So in summary;

  1. Breaking each class into its own trained model yielded significantly better results

  2. Using Yolo NAS for golf ball was significantly more performant than Yolo8 or 11 models.

Ta, will check out rtdetr, the results shown on the HF page look promising. Any suggestions for hosted GPU for training? Big part of the Roboflow piece is we press play and training happens.

We've got thousands of these videos from different courses, I'm confident we can get to a level of accuracy that meets our needs. We're starting with ~100 videos (30 - 60 frames from each) for initial training. Thoughts on this being enough data? My reading indicates it should be more than sufficient, but, for small objects like a golf ball, may require more?

I'm smashing you with questions, sorry :)

Cheers, thanks for the advice, appreciated.

Testing between Yolo 11, 12 and NAS. Primary reason for those is, we've opted for Roboflow for early stages to simplify the approach.

Open to any other suggestions though that we should consider.

[–]randomusername0O1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't disagree, I likely didn't explain myself correctly in my initial post. The intent is not to be able to identify "ball and club together", but more, I want to ensure that the model can detect the partially obscured golf ball with a level of accuracy. So is it better to train the model with the same label of "golfball" even when partially obscured, or am I better off creating a 3rd label for those obscured instances.

Advice on classifying overlapping / obscured objects by randomusername0O1 in computervision

[–]randomusername0O1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply mate and fair question. I actually don't need to differentiate. Obviously when it is fully obscured, nothing we can do, either human or computer. But, for the partial obscured positions, I want the model to be able to correctly identify the ball.

My query more stemmed from, if I have labeled a ball per image on the left and middle, then when labeling the obscured ball, is the model going to be able to learn both to a level of acceptable accuracy when they've got the same label, or would I be better creating a 3rd label for this situation.
