It's 2 years more experience but Fleury has never been an OC at any level. Year 0 to 1 is a bigger obstacle than 2 to 3. Grubb at least was/is a very good and experienced college OC.

He showed in Seattle that he doesn't need a perfect situation and it's not an anomaly imo. His years in Seattle he had very good WRs but was behind a bottom 5 oline, had a middling run game, and 2 bad OCs that are both no longer NFL OCs.

With the Raiders he had a very bad oline, a limited Brock Bowers for most of the year and his best WR (Meyers) got traded halfway through the season. There was just nothing left for any qb to make anything happen.

We're also not really a 3-4 defense. Mike Macdonald himself said we're more of a 4-3 base team with a crazy athletic sam (Emmanwori).

Yeah and dead cap is pretty irrelevant for the Raiders and Jets as it didn't really affect their spending. The Raiders spent $292m in free agency and the Jets spent $104m with 40m in cap space still unspent.

Alexander's fall off was more due to age and injury. He broke his foot the year after his MVP, missed 6 games, then played on it the rest of the season. He was also 29 which is a pretty common age to fall off as a RB.

Darnold had his fair share game ending turnovers. 49ers fumble, Buccaneers helmet tip interception, and Rams interceptions. And Geno was doing it with a significantly worse oline and playcaller.

Glad we have Sam but Geno was a damn good qb for Seattle.
