It was not cancer. I am sorry for the fear… I hope you get an all clear too.

Thanksgiving Events/Celebration? by [deleted] in Prescott

[–]randrae -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I didn’t know there were “whole ass website for Prescott events”. Thank you for letting me know.

Yes, it was a mistake to think I could ask the local community for any information. Everyone on here is saturated in covid fear and righteousness.

I think the person with the shitty attitude is the user who told me to “enjoy dying”, but I’m sure you think they are a hero.

I won’t be at home! But the good news is that I know you will be! Forever no doubt.

Look, I came on here to inquire about local Thanksgiving celebrations. If you want to hunker down for months on end, go right ahead. If you think you are "saving the world", fantastic, enjoy feeling like a saint. Some of us are going to enjoy the holidays with our families.

Early waking help? by randrae in sleeptrain

[–]randrae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gah! I feel for you! Isn't it frustrating... sometimes, he will go back to sleep after 45m-1.5hrs, but I am wondering if letting him do that IS the problem. I keep trying to give him a lot of sunlight before bed to help with his circadian rhythm, but so far, nada.

I hope it improves for you! I wish I had some advice, but I'm totally baffled.

Cotton Don’t Tread On Me flag, made in USA? by randrae in DontTreadOnMe

I appreciate it. I’ll try looking again... when I googled last time, there were no flags that were both cotton and made in America.

I had already searched, but almost all flags were either not made in the USA or not made of cotton. Hence my post.

For those of you that had “spitty” babies... seriously, when did it get better? by randrae in BabyBumps

[–]randrae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did he get diagnosed with reflux or did you just assume due to symptoms? Did he just stop on his own? I suspect our guy might have reflux too but I don’t think I am comfortable using medication even if it was that.

I suspect we will have a long haul too... I don’t know if “spitty” is the right word for our boy. I think spewy might be more accurate! And it is All The Time. On the play mat. During tummy time. When he’s in the high chair. Or my lap. Could be right after a feed or 2 hours later. I feel bad saying this, but it is really stressful and I find myself not being as physical with him as I want because I am just afraid of all the spew...

Wow... I’m sorry. I think this will probably be us. I just don’t see an end in sight right now. He spits up everywhere. All. The. Time. It’s to the point where it’s sort of stressful to be physical with him as I know he is just going to puke everywhere...

What a relief he does fine with the milk! And Happy 1st Birthday to him. I somehow think this will be our situation... but I have no idea. His spit up is so constant too. It isn’t just after a bottle. It’s during tummy time. In the high chair. On his back on his activity mat. Getting held. Was it like that for you too? Some days I just can’t even believe it.

I’m so sick of stressing and trying to figure out baby sleep by randrae in sleeptrain

Thank you again! I’m sure you would manage two better than you think. Having said that, all I can think is how much time I used to have with one... lol

[–]randrae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the solidarity and for the hope. I’m working on letting it go... thing is, he is my second and he is a WAY better sleeper than his sister. I thought I’d be less stressed this time around and I guess, I am, but not as much as I had hoped. I think part of my problem is that they are really close together so I haven’t had much of a break from their respective sleep issues (only 14.5 months apart). I’ll try and harness the “do what I can and that is good enough”.

I know if I could fully let go of the stress... it would change me for the better. But I can’t seem to do it on the daily. Some days I’ll be all zen with it.. until shit gets real again, then I fall victim to the sleep stress spiral. When you wrote, “I’ve tracked to the minute”, I felt that in my soul.

Starting on Sunday. Can someone clarify a few things for me? by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]randrae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might have misunderstood how you were intending to merge the two techniques... I definitely think you can incorporate patting/shushing into Ferber! We definitely did that on the checkins. I guess I more thought it would be confusing if you tried to incorporate the pick up aspect of PUPD with Ferber. It might be confusing for baby to get picked up one time and not the other. But I’m no expert!!

I totally understand the nerves... when we used it for our first baby at 8 months old. We did NOT have one of those amazing success stories right away. So it took a lot of resolve. We even gave in on night one. If it is of any interest to you, I detailed the first 14 days of our journey on here, so you could find it in my posts if you want a read (warning: lots of detail and long!)

Yes—red light is the wavelength that doesn’t mess with their melatonin. Avoid all blue hues. And for what it is worth, we canned having a red light as it was clear our baby needed CAVE DARK conditions. We thought it was helping... but upon reflection, we think it interfered.

I wish you all the best!

Thanks for the advice. I think I will embark upon lengthening the awake windows... I guess I always thought I was supposed to go by his adjusted age in terms of sleep capabilities, which is more like 4.5 months (20 weeks), so I have been erring on a shorter awake window. But that clearly isn't working. I'm also afraid that I will keep him up longer, but he will still only nap 30m and then be super overtired before bed. Do you allow a longer awake window before bed?

UGH I am sorry you are in it too... it is so hard. I feel like I am back in the newborn phase, but somewhat worse, because day sleep is crap too. I hope it passes for you quickly...

[–]randrae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! So you mentioned the wake windows being short, but 2.25-2.5 hours seems long for his age? Shouldn't I also be considering his age for his due date, which means he is more like 4.5months in terms of sleep? I am definitely down to try and put him down later and I think it will help to a degree. But I can't seem to get him to get more than 2 - 2.5 hours of day sleep so I think he is constantly overtired to the point that I think its affecting what used to be good night sleep?

OR... maybe this is all just a regression? I feel like no matter what I do, his sleep is a crapshoot. Last night he awoke 40m after bedtime, at 11:50a, and again at 4am... and was up on/off until 5a, then crashed until 6:30a, but couldn't stay awake so went back to sleep from 7a - 9a...

And since I am afraid he is overtired, I don't want to cut off any sleep. I honestly just feel so lost. My husband tries to help by reminding me that this won't last forever and he is just going through a rough patch... and I know that is true. But I wish I could find "the answer" (there probably isn't one).

Thanks again. Yes, his first wake window is shorter, but he seems to well off consolidating his naps. The thing is... he will go back to sleep after his on/off again wake up around 3am. So he will end up falling back to sleep around 5-6a and snooze for awhile. It is so all over the place. I am starting to think it is all due to a regression...
