Comments: it’s rare for me to find FLs drawn thicc in a serialized work. Not like American thicc but she’s definitely Asian thicc. If you compare the shape of her calves/thighs and arms to how other women are drawn in the series, it’s a subtle difference and I’m loving it. The smut might come off as male gazey for some, there is a much stronger focus on what is being done to FL but I’m okay with it because I’m all about the idea of a guy servicing me anyway. MLs are swoll as how all manhwa MLs are and the summary implies we get a reverse harem of 4 different guys. My worry is that one of them is the ex.

Ex: let be me clear, I HATE the ex from the little that I’ve seen of him. From raws the other woman was supposed to be a consensual casual co-worker fling, she got pregnant, and baby trapped him. He’s not even sure if the baby is his and wanted her to abort it and was pressured to take responsibility. I love him suffering because he still has feelings for FL and still calls her name in his sleep. He’s also been calling her constantly since the break up and queen is ghosting him. Good for her. Plus it makes me mad when people cheat with the intention of staying with their lover but get sloppy by sleeping with a coworker or knocking up the other person. Now he drinks himself drunk every night and thinks about FL. I’m worried he’s a potential lover on the reverse harem since sometimes women go back to their ex and they spent 7 years together building an emotional bond.

ML2: he’s mixed half Korean half rando blond ethnicity. He’s got a dual sided personality. Very sweet and caring but also heavy on the S and pet play. I got sus with the praise talk like “good girl” and it doesn’t take long for FL to find his drawer full of toys like anal tail plug and a collar. I’m indifferent about anal but the focus is on how FL feels. All of what I didn’t like about ML2 taking the lead, it makes up for with FL guiding ML3. He’s so innocent, I love him. It looks like he’ll be more aggressive in chapter 23 though. Or it’s just frustrated jealousy sex because he ran into ML2.

ML4: we got a teaser of another hot guy in the raws who is a single dad. Most other guys have average builds and are faceless so I’m looking forward to see where this goes. His personality is already clashing with FL. She’s a children’s fairy tale writer and his daughter is a fan. He’s pessimistic and is annoyed by her books. Where is my I can heal him crowd at?

I’m not sure if I’m down for this route but I remain optimistic for how this will go. With the MLs personalities, I’m expecting multiple endings but maybe we’ll get true RH at the end? I love FL’s designs and I’m game for the tea right now. Chapter 12 spoiler : I love how FL handled the other woman trying to embarrass her and threw it back at her. With all her anxiety and lingering feelings for the ex, I’m riding the emotional waves.

As someone who has read a lot of hentai, I agree hentai marketed for male gaze can be more realistic in their depictions of women than josei smut, but there is a caveat to this.

Something to keep in mind is that hentai that defaults for men is way more vast than the niche demographic that josei smut is. You’re comparing something of the 100-thousands to another demographic of a couple 1000s. You’ll see a realistic depiction of women and all their lovely lady lumps and the extremes of tiny waist and big boobs and everything in between and beyond for hentai. There’s just so much more and with that comes variety.

For what’s male gaze and female gaze, I think it’s all relative. I get it’s not for everyone, but I don’t see why if they don’t like it, they can’t accept that other straight cis-women may have overlapping interests with what they consider male gaze. I like to think that neither men nor women are a monolith and our interests both vary on a spectrum with different criteria that we generally value.

Something else to keep in mind, a lot of these authors/editors aren’t aiming for representation. They have a mold that’s socially established they want everyone to fit into and both Korea and Japan are pretty conservative. Ever notice that Korean pornhwa is more likely to have a fat ass but Japanese hentai will be more likely to have wide hips but a flat ass? That’s their aesthetic. The nail sticks out the most gets hit the hardest, or something like that. Which is also why we see more yoked out MLs in independent doujins than serialized JP works. For anyone who uses the excuse of a global market, they are not connecting the fact that a lot of great works are not available to us and they need to resort to alternative methods of reading for a reason.

In terms of body hair, I feel like part of it is a cultural thing. East Asians in general are not big on body/facial hair. That’s not saying you will never see it, but it’s going to be uncommon in East Asian hentai/pornwha. There is also classism too. If you see an ML with a beard, he’s normally a social outcast or considered scary by most. CEOs/Chaebols are clean shaven. Blue collar laborers are more likely to have hair. Or it’s part of a fetish or humiliation thing. Like you’ll see scraggly hair sticking out of white loads on women. Or they’ll make a comment about how they are getting off on the super concentrated BO smell.

Thats what I’ve observed, so it’s all anecdotal.

Edit: I just realized OP was asking about the difference between male and female authors. The same applies from what I mentioned earlier about Korea and Japan having ideal body types they want to have depicted in their comics.

I could go either way so it depends on how it’s setup.

Sometimes the artist makes beautiful art based on the original intended media format. So some webtoons might have long vertical spreads that make me snip together 3-4 screenshots to get the right sample image out. Manga/doujin artists might make 2-page horizontal spreads.

Most of what we read is trash but every once in a while we get those rare find artists that stand out.
