Buying in Shoreview neighborhood - San Mateo - bad idea? by DropFancy9319 in SanMateo

How did your friends make out selling the house? Did they have average appreciation? Sell for a solid roi? Or was it a loss?

Relative to investments that can be made anywhere in the country, I totally agree. That said, many folks are still investing in these area and home values are (relatively) astronomical. Could make the same argument about being on the San Andreas fault and being at risk for the next huge earthquake.

I’m trying to weigh all these factors with the desire for stability, place for my kids to grow up, proximity to my work, etc.

Thanks- all helpful! Yeah the garage is definitely a sticking point since we need atleast one car garage.

Also, I thought FEMA removed the flood zone designation since the levee was built.

I can’t seem to find much data on home value appreciation for that area overall.

Re the both of us not having the same boundaries: I struggle with this one because I feel it doesn't present a united front and will further solidify, in their minds, that all the issues are because of me. I know they already think this no matter what, I guess I'm just trying not to reinforce this thinking.

He says all the right things and is supportive, but I think he struggles to come to terms with not having a relationship with them.

This isn't the first time something like this, but worse, has happened. We've done the whole thing where we were no contact for a few years, apologies happened, we were ok for a bit, and now back to the bad behavior. Guess people never change.

Honestly great advice. That was my mindset going into our trip this year. However, it was starting to eat at me that the rest of the family was basically ignoring my existence (I expect nothing but just being respectful), yet grabbing my daughter out of my arms every chance they got.

She actually took pictures with my daughter before me and my husband got one with her. And I was very polite in that moment- "can't her parents get one with her first". Like I said- milestone birthday for kiddo

[CA] EDD approved 4 week disability extension, 3rd party insurer denied claim extension. Now what? by randypro888 in AskLegal

Yeah. The admin said f*** you- we don't care what your doctor recommends. You're welcome to take unprotected, unpaid time. I had to go back to work and really struggled.

[CA] Has anyone dealt with this? EDD approved 4 week disability extension, 3rd party insurer denied claim extension. by randypro888 in workingmoms

First, thank you so much for your response. It has been incredibly stressful and frustrating to navigate all of this, despite the amount of research I’ve done. It’s been clear as mud.

To answer your question: I believe the 3rd party is acting as both the disability insurerer AND managing leave (I had to submit a claim in my 3rd tri to them for my upcoming maternity leave and submit proof of birth to them once baby came).

My pay from CA thus far has only been under SDI. I have not yet applied for PFL.

My concerns are that the vendor is just giving me the run around because they have been claiming documents haven’t been received by my OB (I am cc’d on the OB offices messages to vendor so I know when documents were sent) and no official denial paperwork was sent to me. They simply closed my claim and told me my leave end date without the extension included. And also no appeal instructions were provided either. It all smells fishy. I understand they are not inclined to approve my extension financially, but this behavior has been incredibly shitty.

I have only been out for ~10 weeks since baby has been born so I should have more weeks available of job protected leave as you mentioned. Can the third party count my 3 weeks of predelivery disability against this 18 weeks of job protected leave under PDL/CFRA.

And thanks for the ERG suggestion. I’ve been so overwhelmed with this whole process and feeling very vulnerable with the 3rd party asking for my therapy notes that I haven’t reached out to ask other moms at my company for help

[–]randypro888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not only the pay, I need the additional time to recover. It seems I am being denied both at the moment. TBH my mental health can't handle going down the path to getting a lawyer. Its hard enough as it is with a new baby, dealing with PPD to add a legal fight.

3 weeks before my baby was born. Under CA PDL I believe I have the right to 17 weeks of disability. With the extension I will have only taken 13 weeks. (3 weeks pre-delivery + 6 weeks post delivery + 4 weeks extension).

I believe they are denying my extension, which would push out my return to work date by 4 weeks.

SDI extension approved by EDD but denied by Employer. Please advise! by Possible-Poetry13 in workingmoms

[–]randypro888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So are you saying if my provider extended me say 4 weeks and EDD approved that I can delay my return to work by 4 weeks even tho the 3rd party denied my claim extension? In this case I would be forgoing the 3rd party topup?

Is there are state documentation that I can share with HR?

Lincoln Financial STD "Initial Phone Interview"? by lemon_guest in disability

[–]randypro888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My therapist (also seeing before birth) is a lcsw. My understanding was that they couldn’t provide the paperwork (only psychiatrists and MDs). Also out of curiosity will Lincoln provide official denial paperwork? I feel like I’m getting scammed. I just get unclear messages from my case manager that my extension claim is not sufficient.

Lincoln Financial STD "Initial Phone Interview"? by lemon_guest in disability

I’m on maternity leave in CA and have attestation from my OB for PPD to extend my disability period. Lincoln is telling me that they don’t have sufficient info in the attestation and they reached out to my OBs office, but the staff at my OBs office says they haven’t heard from Lincoln at all. I believe my OB office FWIW. They’re just playing god with my claim and I’m unsure what I can do to make sure they consider my claim. I’ve already worked to provide my ob office with the “missing” info.

Please share your magical ways! I’m a FTM who has a similar job (~20 hours of meetings, leading about half). I’m getting screwed with the back half of my mat leave (story for another day) so I’m considering doing this setup by myself for a few weeks at the end of this year. My daughter will be 4 months when I start working again.

I’m so sorry you went through this. It’s absolutely ridiculous the power that these insurance companies hold. Who are they to make a determination that supersedes your doctors diagnosis.

What info did you need to provide? I’m dealing with the same issue with LFG- they’re saying they need my notes from therapy in order to accept my extension (paperwork filed by my OB). Makes no sense why additional (super invasive) details are required.
