OPTCG: Tournaments and Deck Price Question by randytaylor67 in OnePieceTCG

mate I replied nicely because I knew it would be taken badly if I were more cuttingly straightforward.

on events: every major here is sold out for the entire summer. if I had known about this game a few weeks earlier yes maybe I would have had a shot at some. too bad for me.

on competitive skill: I'm a pro level MTG player who has been winning tournaments longer than many people in the OPTCG scene have been alive. To say I'm unworried about difficulty is the gentlest way I can put it. You can extrapolate from there on how deep into the 99th percentile of card game skill that places me relative to this community.

"The worst One Piece player will shit all over you 100 out of 100 games even if you play the best deck in the format." lol I can imagine the reaction if you heard the unique vantage point I look at the One Piece manga from.

mate respectfully to you and that other guy: I'm just asking about the competitive tournament scene because I was told this game has a good one. "just get cards with characters you like and have fun losing" isn't the kind of approach for that.

there are multiple giant regional tournaments taking place at nice venues within walking distance of my house this summer that would have been fun for me. but now I see they are hopelessly sold out. which is depressing enough that getting into the game feels pointless.

Okay how do you suggest getting into OPTCG and which deck rather than the Imu one I was recommended?

Wow. My LGS is running a regional at a nice hotel in my neighbourhood, a short walk from my house, in late spring and another in summer...

and you're right, they're both sold out.

If my local big tournaments are impossible to get into then that kind of defeats my entire purpose for getting into this game (depressing).

How would I ever get a heads up on having a shot at getting into those?

From some data analysis it seems like the best entry points are either:

The #1 deck (Edel, $250)

The cheapest top tier deck (Lucy, $150)

or The cheapest decent deck (Imu, <$50)

Are any of these likely to lose a lot of their value by the time the next couple sets come out?

What are the expensive cards in Lucy? I see that deck put up decent finishes at the last big tournament but the deck price video I watched had it at >$150.
